Please help: Who are your readers? or How are you including your FMIL in your wedding?

Please help: Who are your readers? or How are you including your FMIL in your wedding?

My FMIL wants to do a reading, and frankly, we don't want her to

We want to ask people who are otherwise not involved in any way, like a cousin, a friend, an aunt. Aren't moms doing enough just by being moms?

hmmm. I guess if you wanted her to that would be one thing, but she requested that she read? no offense, but just a little much.

We are having a close friend and FH godmother do our readings.

Its hard with FH mother to make her a part of stuff. They get so little to do really, but personally the mother of the bride has a lot to do sometimes too much.

I have never seen a mother give a reading though at a wedding...and I have been to over 20 weddings in my lifetime.

You both make me feel so much better! Yes, she is totally over the top in asking to read. I think I literally just walked out of the room when that one came up. And my FH said a real sarcastic 'Yeah OK!' and she said 'what do you mean?' and he didn't answer her.

I'm trying to include her in some planning, but frankly there's no place for her in the ceremony.

Well one thing she could do... In the beginning of your ceremony you could have your FMIL and mom light the candles that you will use to light the unity candle. Thats what we did. Its not much, but it will give her something to do.

My readers were my SIL and a good friend of mine. My mom and MIL lit the unity candles

My husband's godmother (also hjis aunt) was the reader, and we had both sets of parents involved in the unity candle lighting, so that way they were all involved and everyone had a small role, so it wasn't too overwhelming

We are having my cousin and my FBILs girlfriend do our readings... I wanted to originally make her part of the wedding but I couldnt because it wouldnt work on my sisters side with her boyfriend. So instead I made her a reader.. Shes happy to be included... Im happy to have her included too.

urgh I know how you feel, we just had someone invite themselves to our rehearsal dinner.

Yes, she is the MOTHER OF THE GROOM! Jesus! She gets to wear a special dress and have some flowers, I think that's ENOUGH!

Her part in the wedding is 'mother of the groom' - same way your mom's is 'mother of the bride' - it's a huge job in itself - they have to play hostess to the entire family
