please rate your baby monitor

please rate your baby monitor

A friend highly recommended the BeBe sound/movement monitor. It is $100, but can detect if the baby has stopped breathing.
Have any of you used this monitor? thoughts on the ones you own? Registry day is Friday (I am very excited) and need to decide about this stuff.

We have the First Years 900Mhz monitor, and it's great...we have only picked up cordless or cell calls once since we started using it. It's very clear and easy to use. I recommend it.

I don't know much about the movement monitors, but you might want to read some reviews on it. The last thing you want is to be scared half to death in the middle of the night from the alarm, only to find out the baby is just in a really sound and still sleep.

I have heard that the movement monitors are totally unnecessary and can do exactly what Claud mentioned, cause parents undue worry.

I have FP Sound & Lights Monitor and love it. Comes with a dual monitors. I highly recommend it.

the reviews on amazon are great for this monitor. some are from people who had premature babies or know someone who lost a child from SIDs but some are from just parents who wanted extra piece of mind. not sure what to do.

I bought this on recc. from a friend with a SIDS death in the family. I also read many reviews and spoke to others who use it. I was worried about the false alarms too. It is recommended you put a piece of plywood under the mattress if the sensor pad is not resting on something sturdy and causing false alarms. We did not need to do this. I did not have any false alarms until last week. I did not panic since I knew it may just be from her moving around so much. The sensor pad covers a lrage area, but she was under the bumper with her hands sticking out of the crib. The alarm did not even wake her. I just moved her back toward the center. It has happened once more since then for the same reason. We moved the pad from the middle more towards her 'favorite corner'. This seems to have solved the problem. Six months with no alarms is enough for me. Now we can use it as a monitor only if we feel the sensor pad is no longer necessary. FM me if you have any other questions.

That's good to know - that you don't have to use the sensor pad. If that's the case, and you really, really want the extra piece of mind re: SIDS, then I guess it cannot hurt to use it.

But, one other thing to consider - if you plan on having the baby next to your bed for the first few months, than the sensor pad will probably be unnecessary. JMO, but with the baby that close to you, you will hear every little sound they make during the night. After the first 3-4 months, the baby is not at risk for SIDS anymore. Just something to consider with what your specific needs will be.

Re: please rate your baby monitor

Update on the Bebe- I went to BRU tonight and it was on 1/2 price. So I asked the girl why and she said the new model will be in stores in a few weeks. It will have the larger sensor pad, as requested by many parents. So I registered for the Fisher Price and if I want, I can exchange it for the new Bebe once it hits the stores.
