Re: PLease share your Reading choices!
I too hate everything from the old testament. I think we might go with Love is Strong as Death and The Greatest of These is Love.

Re: PLease share your Reading choices!
We decided to do one reading from the Gospel and the other will be a poem.
Mark 10:6-9 'But at the beginning of creation God 'made them male and female.' 'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.' So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let no man separate.'
Apache Wedding Blessing -Now you will feel no rain, for each of you will be shelter for the other -Now you will feel no cold, for each of you will be warmth for the other -Now there is no more loneliness -Now you are two persons but there is only one life before you -May your days together be good and long upon the earth
We are not super religious so I thought these would be appropriate, plus I thought they were really pretty. Also I there is a big section on vows on the ultimatewedding.com site here is the link http://www.ultimatewedding.com/articles/index.php?action=section&sec=37
Hope that helps.

Re: PLease share your Reading choices!
i am still working on this too. everyone seems to always choose the same readings and we wanted something diff. you don't have to choose from the pre-cana book, but you must have one from the old and one from the new testament.

Skew - thanks for that info - I thought we had to pick from the book and none of those inspired us.

Re: PLease share your Reading choices!
We are using 1 poem and 1 reading. Here is the reading we are using:
(There are a few different versions I've seen)
A Letter from Paul to the Corinthians
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.
If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.
If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.
Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous, nor boastful. Love is not proud.
It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails.

Re: PLease share your Reading choices!
Genesis 2:18-24 2:18 Then the LORD God said, 'It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper as his partner.'
2:19 So out of the ground the LORD God formed every animal of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name.
2:20 The man gave names to all cattle, and to the birds of the air, and to every animal of the field; but for the man there was not found a helper as his partner.
2:21 So the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; then he took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh.
2:22 And the rib that the LORD God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man.
2:23 Then the man said, 'This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; this one shall be called Woman, for out of Man this one was taken.'

if you are getting married in a catholic church you MUST choose 1 reading from the old testament and 1 reading from the new testament. speak w/ the priest of your church as policies may differ from parish to parish. some may only allow you to choose from the selected (marraige) readings while other allow you to choose any readings from the testaments.
