Re: Please take my poll...
I think it is totally up to you and FH. I have been to a wedding where they had this, and to me it was amazing - I thought that it sounded great and FH & I loved it, but some people at my table were saying they thought it was a waste of money.

if you really want to... then have them! I'm not sure how much expensive they are, but it's your day!!!
(But me personally, since my FH is a cop, bag pipes just make me think of depressing moments & funerals so i wouldn't have them).

Can I ask for a clarifier?
Are you thinking of a bagpiper because of cultural reasons? family tradition? or just because you like the idea? (not to mention the bare legs and kilt . . . woohoo )
thanks. . . I'll reserve my vote until you respond . . .

My Aunt said the same thing - it reminds her of funerals. That is why I am so confused

It is really up to you but I would rather use that money for something else.

I love them & are having them. We have absolutely no cultural ties, we just want them. My mom is paying for it because she loves them, too. I probably wouldn't do it if I had to pay for it myself. I never associate them with funerals. Brides have their bridesmaids in all black, and I'm sure some people think of funerals with that, but I think it's VERY elegant.

Okay, just wanted to be sure it wasn't just coming out of left field. . . like you're both middle eastern or vietnamese and you just thought they might be cool if that were the case I would have to say no because it would just seem a little odd. . . but since you are Irish, I think that it would definately add to the ambiance of the day and while it may seem funereal to some, I think to others it would be a beautiful addition to a beautiful day. SO, if you can afford it (I don't know the cost) I say go for it! Good Luck

well it's a totally different thing when your FH is a cop or a fireman because you end up going to tons of funerals and they're always played, so it sort of becomes a dreaded sound so to speak. But if your FH is not a cop/fireman than its hard to understand. I don't quite understand your statement about the BM dresses, but to each their own.
*If you want to incorporate the irish background in your wedding... than i say go for it! do what makes you happy! i think it would be a nice addition for your wedding!

Oh DEFINITELY!!!! Love them. I am Irish, and everyuone in my family is in the FDNY. I have been to sooo many funerals, and soooo many weddings. Heard bagpipes at both. The music is totally different. As long as they dont play Amazing Grace, it wont seem like a funeral.

I voted to have the bagpiper play as people enter and exit the church because I want to have one!

I remember I was at a friend's wedding where she had black BM dresses and the groom's grandmother said 'Why did she pick BLACK, it's not a funeral.' I think sometimes older people get really hung up on what the 'tradition' was when they were young. Of course, if that were the case I'd have to wear RED because I have had *gasp* pre-marital relations!! I see your point about your FH. I didn't realize they had bag piper's at the funerals of officers.

Oh okay i understand now. I'm sure having the BM's wear black nowadays is very new, especially to older generations. Good point!

Re: Please take my poll...
Both FH and I are Irish and both agree that bagpipers are right for funerals, I associate bagpipes w/sadness so I wouldn't have them at my wedding. IMO
P.S. I hope I haven't insulted anyone who is having bagpipes at their wedding, this is just mine and FH's personal view point.

Re: Please take my poll...
I would do it if I had the money and just make it part of the ceremony - not anything at the reception. Leave that to the DJ.

I was going to say the same thing...
but I think when it IS associated with a wedding, it's a happier, special feel. I know someone on here (I forgot who) brought in bagpipers DURING the reception to perform and for everyone to dance to. Is that an option for you?
