Plus 1 Etiquette

Ok ladies...do what's the rule when it comes down to plus ones??? We have friends on our lists that are currently no in relationships...however, they will be there with other friends...some of whom are married/in a relationship. Do you give single people a plus one??

HELP!!!!

We did. It gets a little tough because if everyone brings a guest that could double your guest list and it gets pricey. But a lot of people just invite guests with a +1 if they are in a steady relationship. HTH!

my friend got married a few years ago, and she did no plus one for anyone not LIVING with, engaged to, or married - that said, I was offended when I was invited without the plus one even though I had been in a year + long relationship just because in her mind it didn't mean as much. On the other hand, we had a BLAST that day it just being the Hofstra Crew.... I think what I was most upset about was not being told by HER, by hearing about it from others. It's one of those touchy areas.

The way she did it was she put each person's name on the invite that was actually invited. Some suggest writing 'one plate has been reserved for you' or something along those lines to make it clearer.

We invited everyone older than 18 with a guest...which means every single person got invited with a guest regardless of relationship status because we aren't having kids haha! I think it is the courteous and polite thing to do.

Last summer just before I got engaged a high school friend invited me SOLO to her wedding despite the fact that I was in a very serious relationship. I didn't go. That is an extreme example but bottom line, most people we invited with a guest RSVP's just for themselves bc they weren't in a relationship. I think its more of a courtesy to adults than anything else...

We did plus 1 for everyone who was in a serious relationship but that was also because we were on a tight budget.

We are inviting everyone with a plus one regardless of their relationship status. I feel it's impolite not to bc I put myself in other people's shoes. If I was dating someone, but not engaged or living together, I would still like for him to bring me to the wedding, and vice versa. I wouldn't want to go to a wedding alone.

I think it depends. I invited most people with a plus one. However, I have a group of friends who all know each other and are not in serious relationships so I invited them solo because I figured they can be each other's dates.

We did something similar. And we spoke directly to the people who we couldn't give plus ones to and explained the situation, instead of just letting them find out via invite. Some people we were able to extend a plus one to after our final count came in because we got some unexpected 'nos' and hadn't hit our 'safe' number yet.

This is exactly what i am doing. i have friends that arnt going to know anyone there , they will be invited with a guest. My main group of friends that are all single will not be getting a +1

I think as long as you speak with the people you aren't inviting plus 1 you are OK it's the NOT talking with them ahead of time that makes it tough.

If they were not in serious relationships (engaged, married or living together included obviously -- but not limited to) they did not get a plus one. I'm having issues with it right now, but a lot of FH's friends will bring someone for the sake of bringing someone, so that's annoying. They will do just fine by themselves!

I know a lot of times it comes down to budget and not because you could care less about your friends relationships. But when I first started dating FH he had two weddings of old but not close anymore friends. I was invited to both. It definately made me feel appreciated even though we hadn't been dating that long, and I appreciated it because his ex was at both weddings too! haha.

I think if you can spare a few guests then those in relationships should be able to go.

I invited everyone with a plus 1 regardless of what I thought their relationship status was.

I am in the same mind set as a lot of you! If the roles were reversed I would want a plus one too!

It's budget wise...it's getting hard!

We only gave our guests a plus one if they were in a serious relationship we could not afford to invite all of our single guests with plus ones...the only exception was DHs younger brother but he was the best man.

Re: Plus 1 Etiquette

Initially we were going to do +1 for everyone, but now we are just going to do +1 for anyone in the bridal party, people who are engaged/married, or anyone who is any sort of serious relationship. We don't want random people there but at the same time feel that it isn't necessarily our place to judge the seriousness of someone's relationship. So basically if they are actually dating someone for more than a couple dates, they get to bring them.

I would love to invite everyone to my wedding but being that I'm on a tight budget only those in serious relationships are allow to bring a guest. It all comes down to money and I can't break the bank for people that FI and I don't know.

I know, it sucks!!!!

Yeah it really does suck becasue i don't anyone to be uncomfortable!!! But then again, I don't want to go broke!

I think it's hard to not do the plus 1 without discussing it with the guest. I think doing an age limit is def appropriate.. for example, no one under the age of 18 gets a plus one. But it's hard to expect your cousin to come without a date... I know I would feel weird!

I personally think its rude not to give people the option to bring a guest. We are inviting everyone with a guest. Most people dont randomly search for someone to bring, unless they know Noone there. I think its better to give them a choice, then to offend anyone.
