PLUS ONE.....................

Original post by MrsG2011

are you allowing guests to invite 1 guest? my cousin who recently got divorced in 2008 starting dating again... now she is asking me 'Can I invite my honey?'...... I dont know she was dating until now... they have been dating for 2 years..

Anyhoo, I personally want to say 'As of right now, I dont want to make any promises to anyone b/c the family list alone on both sides is driving me to drink. ' but I dont think thats nice over email..

What is a more appropriate response? Are you allowing plus one + for all your guests?

NOW IM FEELING WEDDING STRESS!!!

seriously you have to do what YOU can afford. If you need to keep your list short; then you should just tell her no. Especially since you didn't know that she was even dating anyone! It's not like you go on double dates with them and now are telling her she can't bring him. GL!

Tell her:

Oh, that's cool!! I had no idea you were dating someone for 2 years!! Sure, we'll add a plus one...

and don't add a plus one to everyone... unless you feel like you can invite that many extras.

Because our guest list is small and we wanted to know every single person at our wedding we are not inviting plus one unless they are from OOT.

Re: PLUS ONE.....................

we invited anyone single with a guest if we knew they had a significant other. Those who we believed were single we invited alone. FH's 2 cousins just got divorced though one has had a BF for over a year. Since we were unsure if she was actually divorced yet we invited her solo due to his conservative family. She called and asked if she could bring him and of course we said yes.

i only gave certain guest plus one

i have a lot of single friends, but we are all mutual friends so they don't need dates, they know people and wont feel uncomfortable

i gave several ...less close...friends plus ones
and 'older' single co-workers plus one

no family got plus ones, cause they are family and need to suck it up LOL

I think it's up to your discretion.

I think if they are in a serious relationship they should get to bring that person.

THIS is exactly what we are doing!

at first, i didn't want to invite everyone with a guest, but i gave in, so now everyone is allowed to bring a date.

Yes, we are inviting everyone with a plus one. I personally find it rude to not allow an adult in a relationship to bring a guest.

same here

Me too

we are doing +1 for all guests unless its a specific circumstance in which i know they wont bring anyone.
I didnt want to , but here is an example, one of my bm's is single, been friends with her for years and years.....I feel weird not putting +1 for her...

Thoughts??

we invited everyone +1 even those not in relationships...

id say 2 years is a serious relationship... i dont see why there would even be a question about it

Re: PLUS ONE.....................

We are allowing everyone with a guest. We have a bunch of single friends that we know won't bring a guest, but I think it's a nice gesture to extend the courtesy of bringing one. As for family, if they are over 21 they are getting a guest. I have about 5 cousins between the ages of 18-20 who are not in relationships and they are not getting guests.
I also find it nice to include a family or friends boyfriends or girlfriends name on the invitation rather than writing and guest (If you know their name of course). When FH and I were together for about 3 years he was invited to a wedding with a guest. What made me a little upset was that we hung out with the couple getting married all the time. They obviously knew my name, that Fh and I were looking for houses together and talking about marriage and they didn't include me on the invitation. Little things like that make your guests feel like you are taking the time to think about them.

we are pretty much invited everyone plus 1. The only people I didn't invite plus 1 are family friends that are like 20. If they are dating someone and want to bring them, they can ask me.

We only invited some with guests...the ones that are in relationships for more than a few months. My friends jump from guy to guy- and personally, if they are offended and don't want to attend (they are all in a larger group of single friends anyway), then they don't have to attend.

I ran it by almost all of them beforehand anyway....and one of my guy friends told me not to invite his GF since they probably wouldn't be dating by then anyway! Everyone was cool with it, so we left it at that

Re: PLUS ONE.....................

We are inviting all of the BMs and GMs with a +1, even if they are single, because they are in the bridal party and it is nice to do that. We are inviting everyone else with a +1 if they are dating someone at the time we send out our invites. If someone is single at that point they don't get a guest. If their situation changes in the few months between mailing out the invites and the wedding, then we will consider giving them a +1 if we get enough people saying they aren't coming to the wedding.

I think you should dow hat you feel comfortable and what you can afford. We invited everyone with a guest, but when people started asking to bring a guest and someone else I said no way unless you want to pay for them. (That sounds B Itchy but they were family or close friends that asked.)
