Does anyone know of any salons that carry dresses to try on that are larger than a 10?
I tried on wedding dresses for the first time yesterday and had a horrible experience. I'm a size 16 dress, but I have very large hips. All of the dress sizes were a 10, and after trying on 1, the woman wouldn't let me try on any others. She told me to look through the size 18 and up rack, and when I did, I didn't like any of the dresses. I was completely frustrated, and I don't want that experience again. (This was at RK Bridal--I know a ton of people who all found their dresses here...some were plus size as well. I personally did not have a good experience though)

I had luck at Bridal Suites of Centereach and Fantasia bridal in Rocky Point. They had a large selection of plus size dresses. Both places were wonderful but I chose Fantasia bridal over the 2 and they have been MORE than amazing.

I am plus sized and I went to these places and had really good experiences at all of them: David's Bridal Helen's of commack Fantasia Bridal Wedding Center of Commack Paradise Bridal
I wound up ordering my dress from Paradise (ask for Fanny she is the best!) but I must have tried on about 50 dresses, and they were all over a size 16 :)

Helen's in Commack is fantastic about getting you into dresses..
Bridal Suite of Centereach has a seperate room with a good selection..
Fantasia in Rocky Point had some (I got mine here! Great Service, super sweet girls)
Angel Bridals in Islip has probably 15-20 (And the ladies in this store are SO nice)
Paradise Bridal in Patchogue had some but honestly were very 'matronly' looking..
In Estelles in Farmingdale they had a good selection; it's a lot of buy off the rack but if it's a designer other people carry you can always order it some place else!
Bridal Suite of Bay Shore had some too but I didn't actually go there to try anything on; I had just looked briefly while I was there for something else

David's has allo sizes.
I got my gown at Macy's Bridal Salon in manhasset, and though the samples were standsard size, they had NO problem getting me into the dress, and i think at the time I was about an 18.

I recommend taking a look at RK Bridal in the city, they have a large section of plus size dresses. I also tried on most of the dresses from the regular section as well. I am a size 16 and I had no problem trying on dresses at RK, David's Bridal, or Macy's Manhasset. I also went to Bridal Reflections Massepequa, whose dresses were quite small, but the sales girl there was great she just stuffed me in, said it didn't matter if they ripped, they were samples! I'm sorry to hear that about RK. My gown is a 16 and they had so many different samples in tons of sizes for me to try on. Most of the gowns I tried on were 12s and 14s.

Thank you everyone for giving me suggestions! I am definitely going to try some of these places! I don't feel so defeated anymore knowing there are places to go!

Im sorry to not have any advice for you- I havent started dress shopping yet but I definitely know where I WONT be going. If they arent prepared to make every bride feel beautiful in their gowns, they aren't getting any money from me!
My sister (plus size) has gotten her bridesmaids dresses and her bridal gown at bayshore bridal and paradise bridal. she had a terrible experience at fantasia when a bridesmaids dress needed to be let out- they couldnt let out the material so they replaced the entire front panel with a piece of material that was a tint off in color and was very obvious.
Good luck, the dress will come to you, dont settle for anything less than your dream dress!

I randomly went into a few boutiques today with my mom after work, and I actually was able to fit into the size 12 sample sizes (the backs didn't close, but I was able to see what the dress would look like on me) I guess I just had 1 bad expereince. I'm feeling so much better about dress shopping now. Thank you everyone for your input!

i got my dress at Bridal Reflections in Massapequa. I am a Size 14 and they def had dresses for me to try on. And as the previous poster said, even if it doesnt fit they will try and get you into it!
