POLL about name change

POLL about name change

On Z100 the other morning they had a big discussion about if it is ok for the guy to take the girl's last name. (someone called in and said that a friend of theirs was unable to take his wife's last name whereever they lived). I brought it up to FH the other day as a joke and he said he would never take my last name!

What are you doing about your name change? I am most likely going to take his last name...but that will be the end of my last name in my family then...bc my only girl cousin has a different last name. Just wondering what everyone else is doing!

I took DH's last name. I never had intentions of keeping my name, but we talked about it b/c we have some friends that werent sure what they would do. DH said he woud be really mad if I didnt take his name. Like it would be an insult to the family.

I do have a friend and her DH took her name because she was the last one in the family with the last name. So, DH took her name

I will most likely take FHs name but I like my last name and I feel it's part of my identity. Fh doesn't care as long as I dn't hyphenate. I don't know why..

I didn't change my name but now I'm considering it. As for the guy changing his name, I ran that by DH when we went to apply for the license and he gave me the But, me changing my name isn't a requirement for him, his culture doesn't really do that so it's entirely up to me.

I had thought about not changing my last name for business reasons and my FH was not happy about that. My MN is sooo easy and his is hard to pronounce. I dont know why I am so protective over my last name! lol Guess I have established myself and become so independent. But overall, I will take his name - feel like it completes our union :)

I feel the same way. My last name is who I am- my italian first name goes perfectly with my italian last name. I'm going to take FH name but I also feel like I'll be mourning my last name

None of the above--I added DH's last name to mine w/o a hyphen! Best of both worlds to me---so I can use both or either...it can be a pain explaining at times but I am soo happy with my decision.

So this is true? If you add it without a hyphen, you can still keep some things as just maiden name, some as just married name, and some as both, for whatever reasons?

Hmmm. I'm not sure. I'm definately keeping my last name for work. FH wants me to change it, but I am not happy about leaving my last name behind...

Keeping mine..I've had my name for almost 30 years and I see no need to change it now.

A friend of my moms asked if I was taking FH's name and my mom said no. When mom's friend asked if FH was bothered by it my mom said 'Are you serious? Do you think Diane would marry anyone who cared?!'

I'm the feisty daughter in the family

Same here. The kids at school told me not to change my name because mine sounds much better.

I'm keeping my name. I never even considered changing it until I got involved with my fiance. I asked him after we got engaged if it was a big deal to him, and he said 'no.' Which is good, I don't think I could have done it. His last name is Weiner. I'm NOT going to be a weiner. I know it's a common name, but no.

I have to keep my name on a professional level.... I discussed it w/ FH if I should take his name in my personal life... he said that would wierd... I agreed. Our kids will have his name only....

(I should mention he's in the same field as I am, and totally understands why name recognition is important.)
