We opened one up about 2 months after we got engaged so we could start saving for the wedding.

Re: Poll about Savings Accounts
We live together now and have two separate accounts. I honestly haven't figured out what we'll do after the wedding. (Nor did I give it any thought until now...) Another decision to be made - AHHH!!!

Re: Poll about Savings Accounts
We opened one up right after we moved in together, so all our money is in one account.

Re: Poll about Savings Accounts
He's horrible with money, his account was at a negative balance, so we just closed it and put him on mine.
We also have a separate account for the wedding. That's in my father's name as well so he can contribute.

Re: Poll about Savings Accounts
We opened a joint savings after we got engaged. All of our engagement party money went in here and we each contribute a certain amount each month. It is our wedding/house fund!

Re: Poll about Savings Accounts
We opened a joint account after we got engaged and use it for all wedding expenses. Until we get married we still keep separate checking accounts.

Re: Poll about Savings Accounts
Okay, I didn't vote, because I have a long story.
We opened a combined savings account after we got engaged. It was going to be for our wedding savings, well the account got seized because my FH, had an old debt. And of course they found him once we got the account together. All our savings and checking accounts were frozen. They only way to un freeze them and not have our checks bounce was to pay them. So they took about $1500 out of our combo savings. So............. I took all the money out of the account and opened one in my name only that will be our wedding savings. I left a little bit of money in our joint account so he could cash his pay checks against it. e And we have our own seperate checing accounts.
So...........beware, make sure you and your FH do not have any old debts that just got ignored, because they WILL find you!u

Re: Poll about Savings Accounts
We opened one before we got engaged because we lived together for over 3 years before we got engaged.

Re: Poll about Savings Accounts
I didn't vote but none of our answers fits with your poll. We already have our own individual savings accounts before we tied the knot. We planned to maintain our own separate individual savings account even after our wedding. It's also the same with our own checking accounts as well.
We however, opened combined our wedding monetary gifts into a CD and a checking account jointly. These joint account containing our wedding monetary gifts will be for the purchase of a house one day. To each their own, do whatever works best with you. Don't let other people influence your decision or choice. Nowadays there's so many choices.

Re: Poll about Savings Accounts
We opened a checking account together a million years ago (I can't remember why but there was some reason). I have a checking account that became 'the wedding fund' but we recently opened a checking account for wedding expenses (I move $$ from the savings account and we write checks for deposits, etc).
Our major $$ (salary & paying bills) are still separate. We live together & I pay all incidentals, he pays mortgage and we each pay our own credit card bills.

Re: Poll about Savings Accounts
A year after college we joined our savings accounts (closed my and added me to his) and we opened a joint checking account. Both of our paychecks go into the checking and as we have extra money we throw it into the savings. We've been together for 7 years and we own a place so for us it was the right thing to do. Neither one of us has any debt other than students loans and those are equal so we're on the same playing field to begin with. We pay both credit cards together and I have to give him credit for not even so much as shaking his head when he sees my bill.

Re: Poll about Savings Accounts
I'm with Jar823 on this one. I have my own checking/savings account. He contributes to my account via direct deposit. He has an checking account in his name so he can pay child support. After the wedding...everything will stay the same. I take care of all the bills...I don't need his name on anything. Works for us...

Re: Poll about Savings Accounts
I never even thought about it! Currently we have separate accounts in 2 different credit unions! We will probably keep these just because its easy with direct deposit and what not. So we will probably just add one anothers name to the others accts. Plus I dont want to close either acct because its a credit union so their loan rates are lower than the regular bank!

Re: Poll about Savings Accounts
We opened a savings account before we got married. We were dating 7 years before we got engaged. We knew we were going to get married, so we decided to open the account before hand to get a jump start on saving.
