Yep, I definitley shopped around! I ended up ordering my dress from Phyllis of gownfind.com and I saved about $300. My alterations are capped at $150 max!

I tried to call around but mine was brand new when I ordered it. None of the other shops that I called on LI even knew when they were getting it in or how much it was

My dress was only $399 - I didn't think I could get cheaper than that!

I found my dress at Macy's in Manhassat but ended up buying it at Charmet in Bayside for $800 cheaper with alterations included. All in all I probably saved close to $1,000. So IMO it's worth it to call around!

I didn't shop around but my FSIL did.... I found my dress in silk for $1500.... David's had a beautiful version of it for $600 or so... my FSIL found it from an ebay vendor for $400 including shipping and crinoline

Not too many places carry my designer (except Macys, which I HATE and the showroom in Manhattan) so I didn't really bother to check in other stores for my particular dress.

Yes!!! I went to the Bridal Atiler by Mark Ingram and they quoted me $4750+tax or so and I went to the Wedding Salon of Manhasset and got my dress for $3500 including tax. It really pays to negotiate.

They used too but apparently they cant anymore. Yes the cap the alterations at 100 or 150 I think she said. I think they only charge for the bustle and hem. I dont remember but Carole is AWESOME. She saved mylife last week when I was having a meltdown LOL

I actually just talked to girls here to see what different places advertised it as. Worked well, I got them to knock $500 off the price.

No, I didn't shop around at all. I went to a few places, and I fell in love with one dress. They wouldn't tell me who the designer was, and I looked online for it but couldnt find it. I figured since I loved it I should just buy it .

no, I loved the service at the place I found it , so I just put a deposit on it right then & there. It wasn't very expensive anyway, & my mom was buying it for me & she thought it was a reasonable price.

I tried calling, but a number of places did not give prices on the phone.
I also realized cost does not beat service and quality.

Re: POLL Before you ordered your dress did you...
I called around and in many cases went in to stores that carried the Maggie Sottero line. The cheapest price I found was at The Wedding Center in Commack but since I live in NYC, that was a little difficult. I ended up bargaining with Macy's and they met the Wedding Center's price. I saved $400 from the original Macy's price
I called around for my bridesmaid dresses and the cheapeset place we found for them was Burton's Bridal in Melville and RK Bridal catalog.

no, I didn't....and I kind of wish I had called.
But I was just so happy to have found something I loved, it didn't even occur to me.
