POLL: Brides getting married on site....

Original post by Jenn04

I am getting married on site and trying to decide if I should see FH before the ceremony so we can do our pictures.

OK some background information: Originally we did not want to do this but the more I think about it the more I think it will be a good idea because:

1 - We live together and see eachother everyday
2 - The first time he sees me in my gown will be private and special
3 - It will help take the edge off my nervousness if I have him by my side all morning
4 - We will be able to attend most of the cocktail hour.
5 - If we do the pictures AFTER the ceremony...it will be rushed, I will get cranky/snappy...it could ruin my mood!
6 - Also my catering hall has a lot of places to take pictures....gardens, golf course, beaches and I want to take advantage of all of these!

Anyway....just let me know what you are doing!!! Thanks!

We are not going to see one another before we are at the Church...I guess I am more traditional...and am looking forward to him seeing me for the first time on that day walking down the aisle in Church

we did it before---and best decision. not only was the moment intimate and private---we didn't have to rush to do all pictures in an hour before the reception and during the CH--but it calmed BOTH our nerves for the ceremony.

i agree. plus, it gives u more time to kinda relax knowing that u got all the pics out of the way

Definitely do the pics before the ceremony. You are paying a lot for you wedding and you want to enjoy it as much as possible. FH and I really want to be at the cocktail hour. (That's where the best food is anyway.) You also want to get your pics out of the way before just in case you spill something on your dress or your make-up begins to wear off. The tradition of not seeing each other before the ceremony has faded anyway.

it's entirely a personal thing...everyone is different. I had the option to do this because my ceremony was a late night in December - so most of our photos were going to be indoor since we took them after(at night). Our photographer suggested that we do it BEFORE the ceremony so we can get more shots, outdoor photos, go to a photo location, etc. Now, if it's because you really want to go to your cocktail hour & enjoy that, then that's totally different. We had a large enough gap for photos where we still had a LITTLE bit of time for it so we didn't miss the entire thing....

BUT..
The reasons I was glad we didn't take photos before:

1) u can't control the weather. It was rainy & windy on our wedding day so we would've taken indoor photos anyway

2) I know they do it all special and private now, & they do capture the moment... but i will be honest with you...there is NOTHING like seeing ur FH for the first time waiting at the end of that aisle. I guess because its something we all dream about since we're little. And DH says the same thing....'It just wouldn't have been the same if those doors swung open & I had seen you already'....there's just something surreal about it. again this is just my opinion - and like i said everyone is different. As for the girls who HAVE done it before, some girls say 'I wish i hadn't', others say 'It was the best thing we did - i'm so glad we did it that way'....it's really something for u to decide! From my personal experience, the anticipation of walking down the aisle & seeing my FH for the first time when those doors swung open was entirely special & a moment I will never forget - and neither will he. I wouldn't have done it any other way. but good luck with whatever u decide! like i said, we had a bunch of time between our ceremony & cocktail hour for photos....

it'll be special no matter what u chose...

We both wanted to wait to take pictures after the ceremony because it was important to both of us that we see eachother for the 1st time as my father walks me down the aisle!! For us, there was something soooo magical about that moment! As I walked down, I saw NO ONE but my Brian waiting at the end for me!! I wouldn't have traded that moment for the world!! Were our pictures rushed - yes BUT we were still able to get AMAZING photos!!

Its really personal choice and no one will be able to tell u what to do. I had many people, including my photog who wanted us to see eachother before hand because it's be easier BUT we held our ground!

Definitely good points. I always imagined FH seeing me the first time when I walk down the aisle. I wish I could have it my way....but I am just not willing to give up cocktail hour since we are paying for it ourselves...and I am nervous that I will get CRANKY! I am known for that! I still have some time and will do more thinking. Thanks for all that have posted so far! I appreciate everyone's opinion!

we did our pics before, and i'm so glad we did. when we did the 'reveal' DH was shaking and in tears, it was such a special and private moment, and only our close family was there to witness it. it was perfect, and it did not make walking down the aisle my dad any less special. we were a bit more calm, and that helped a lot. we were also able to attend our cocktail hour. for us, it was the perfect way to begin our day.
