i can't decide if i should go with the Carlyle or the Woodlands...
FH and i LOVE LOVE LOVE the carlyle, but the only 2 dates that would work for us on their availability list are saturday nights in Oct/Nov. we are planning to have our ceremony and take pictures there as well, so I am worried that we won't be able to take pictures outside as it would already be dark by 7pm. although the interior of carlyle is absolutely gorgeous, i feel like it's a waste if we can't take pictures outside. (and no - taking pictures somewhere else earlier is not an option)
we like the woodlands a lot, too!! but the setting of the ballroom bothers me a little - the dance floor is on one end, i don't want my guests sitting towards the end of the ballroom feel neglected (can't think of a better word.. ehhee ). price and availability are perfect for us.
with one 'con' each, which one would you choose???

Re: POLL: Carlyle?? the Woodlands??
If price is not a concern, I would say the Carlyle. I went to eat at Passionfish the restaurant above the Woodlands one night and as we were walking in, we could see the cocktail hour going on...it was terrible. I think the Carlyle is more private. But I think you should check out country clubs, not necessarily woodbury or cresthollow, but open up the phone book and look for private clubs...many of them you don't need to be a member to have a party and they have great prices and total privacy. Good luck!

October isnt so bad. If you can get a date in the beginning of october (anything before columbus day weekend), daylight shouldnt be a problem. I noticed the sunsets started after 6pm. I would go with the carlyle.

Re: POLL: Carlyle?? the Woodlands??
Since I'm the only Woodlands bride here, I will just say, in response to Lafemnikita, they have added a door to completely separate the restaurant entrance from the reception and cocktail hour.
Good Luck with your decision!

Re: POLL: Carlyle?? the Woodlands??
i'm partial but i say go for Carlyle. there are plenty of places to do indoor pics and you will be able to get some pics done outdoors before it gets too dark.
you said you LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Carlyle--that seems to say it all!
good luck!

Re: POLL: Carlyle?? the Woodlands??
hi!! thanks for the votes!! keep them coming!!
carlyle brides: where did you take your indoor family pictures at?? (we have BIG families)
and thanks for all advices and comments! people going to passionfish at the woodlands shouldn't be a problem for us though since we're planning to have our wedding on sunday and passionfish is closed on sunday according to them.

Of course I'm partial and I voted for Carlyle. We had our ceremony there too and it ws at the end of Novemeber so it did get dark early. We took pictures outside before the ceremony. I don't know if this is an option for you or not. We also took pictures outside in the dark. I let you know how those turned out when I get the proof. We took family pictures in front of the fireplace in the room that had the cremony.

Re: POLL: Carlyle?? the Woodlands??
This summer we went to a wedding at the Carlyle - it was great!! But we also went to a wedding at the Woodlands - it was the best wedding we ever went to....the food and service were outstanding and the place was gorgeous. I didn't realize they had a restaurant until we were leaving (of course we stayed for the after hours party on this wonderful patio off the bar). The room we were in had the dance floor in middle of the room. We also went to a wedding this October at Oheka - OMG how impressive!! Very different - it was a buffet, but very elegant.

There is no comparison, definitely the Carlyle! It is still worth the money even if you don't take pics outside, the atmosphere, food and service are what you are paying for.
