Re: Poll for Book #2

I have a friend that works at the library in Manhattan and she gets me any book that I want...I hope I can get the book that is being read for next month.

I've read everything on the list and everything suggested except Watermelon and Topping from Below (sounds like it is RIGHT up my alley!). Yes, Middlesex is only in hardcover right now. Best to wait until it comes out in paperback. I believe it was nominated for the National Book Award.

Stef - you are setting up a poll?

Re: Poll for Book #2

for all of you who basically stoned me for suggesting a 9/11 book here is a different book NON 9/11.

It's a NY times best seller

Its called Me talk pretty some day. I cant remember the author but its an autobiography about this guy who is gay, has a stuttering problem and growing up with his stuttering problem and his sexuality. He hates his parents, hates his siblings and no one understands him. Its a NY times best seller, and I have read it 3 times. Its a phenominal book

Chipp: No intention of stoning you...I was just stating my feeling on the subject.

Ive heard great things about that book too! I'll have to remember that for poll #3.

David Sedaris is my absolute FAVORITE author. His first book Naked is equally hysterical.
I've lent his books to all my friends. Some of them get it, some of them don't.

A similar type of book (childhood stories, etc.) that is also very funny is A Girl Named Zippy.

Sonicstef: no hard feelings here.

i lent my 'me talk pretty some day' to a friend and she never returned it

He is a good author.

I'll have to keep my eyes open for 'a girl named zippy'

I am currently reading a CSI book so I have to finish this before i pick up another one.

I am sorry if you took our comments as a stoning, not our intentions at all.
I was just expressing my feelings about the books. There are sooo many heros whose stories we will never know and some people find it very inspiring to read those books- it was just for me I find it sad and it just makes coming to work in NYC everday very difficult.

Re: Poll for Book #2

I am back where I was on 9/11. 2 blocks from it. I was suppose to be in 3 WFC to get some keys which would mean i would have been walking through the outside plaza, but saw it all from the train because I was running late. I was moved to NJ, layed off, got a new job, had problems there, left, now i have a new job different company but I am back in the same spot. (across the street from my old firm)

I am constantly reminded of it everyday when I walk on Church street and there is no more twin towers across the street. I am next door to the stock exchange and have already had 2 bomb scares in my 3 weeks here.

The only way I was able to have some closure and healing was by engulfing myself in all 9/11 books.

no hard feelings

We each deal differently with what happened. You have every right to read, read, read your way to peace about what happened.
I am on Pearl Street everyday for work.
