Re: Poll for Book #2
Handmaiden's Tale
But I need someone else to nomiate it since I already nominated one
Maybe we should vote on a genre before an actual book. That will help us narrow down our choices?

Re: Poll for Book #2
Don't know if it will make it to a vote, but The Weight of Water is a GREAT book (well, I think so), as is Fortune's Rocks - both are by Anita Shreve. While I disliked Pilot's Wife, also by the same author, these 2 are great if anyone is looking for reading material.

Re: Poll for Book #2
So the top 5 I have here is:
Topping from Below Good In Bed Red Tent Watermelon Pride and Prejudice
Sorry but Middlesex is only in hardcover.
Everyone okay with this? Are we ready for a poll to be put up?

Re: Poll for Book #2
just a tip...when i am trying to decide what my next book is, i go to amazon and read some of the critical reviews as well as other readers' reviews...this might help each of us in deciding

Re: Poll for Book #2
I think there is a way for me to limit one IP address from voting more than once but I have never tested it and Im sure there is a way around it. So we'll just have to trust each other otherwise I will be forced to count up IP addresses!!

We should only vote once. I have heard good things about all those suggestions and I haven't read any of them!!!!

Re: Poll for Book #2
The recommendation thread had many great suggestions, but I guess it's too late for that for book #2. I think we should try to open the poll a little longer so that more readers can participate.

Re: Poll for Book #2
Girls, remember the library, the place where you can BORROW books and save your money for other good stuff !
Just teasing, but I noticed that a book was excluded because its only in hardcover. If its not too new, i'm sure the libraries will have several copies of it that can be taken out for 3 weeks at a time... no one seems to go to the library anymore! I LOVEEE the library, and what if the book stinks, now what do you do with it ?
i'm up for any good book !

Re: Poll for Book #2
I'm all about the library, too, however, the one by me has a horrible selection and you can be on a waiting list for months. Hence, I get angry and spend too much $ on books. I figure books are ok to spend $ on. But I do a lot of book swapping w/ friends, too.

Re: Poll for Book #2
My library is the central one for Brooklyn and it is a monster, never has anything I want and is very far away. I'd rather spend the $20 then have to deal with it.
The reason why I excluded the hardcover was because I posted this suggestion and asked people to vote. The overwelming majority agreed.

Re: Poll for Book #2
I'm not sure if you are still looking for suggestions or not, if so, The Shipping News by Annie Proulx. If not, well, I'll suggest it next month. LOL

Re: Poll for Book #2
Library is a great place but often doesn't have many new releases, plus a huge hard cover is heavy for me to carry on the train. I have done it, but I would rather a paperback if possible.
So should we start voting? Also, buy.com has free shipping so that is much better than amazon.
