Poll for Gore/Kerry voters

It's counter-intuitive, but I think 2004 is worse, because I just can't believe that people could watch this disasterous presidency and vote him in again. It's especially disappointing if the pundits are correct in saying that the gay marriage issue is what brought voters out in support of Bush.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions arnt they. Not everyone supports gay marraige and thats what makes this country so wonderful, that we can have our own opinions. If we havent learned by now...sometimes republicans will win..sometimes they wont. The same way Kerry suporters feel now..is how Bush supporters would have felt if he had lost.

As for stealing the election..I think that is the low blow. I wanted Gore and was disappointed when it was 'florida' that was a deciding factor.

Let me clarify: Considering the state of our country: ballooning deficit, out of control health care costs, massive job losses, a war that is spiraling out of control, etc; it makes me sad that people would be more concerned about who can marry whom than they would about the above issues. Especially, when these folks were voting against something that didn't exist and that John Kerry did not support.

I don't think that gay marriage was the sole reason 59.2 million people re-elected Bush. I for one am very much for gay marriage and yet I voted for him. The media is making it out that it was only moral issues that got Bush back in. Where are they getting that information from? Polls. If we take a look at the exit polls from Tuesday, I think it's quite clear that polls are invariably flawed.

Either way, even if the media is correct on the morals bit, it's morals in general, not a single belief about gay marriages, that they're referring to.

Again... you have to realize that not all those topics you mention affect everyone.

State of the country: Your opinion.. and your opinion only

Ballooning deficit: Until it affects my pocketbook.. its not an issue. In fact I am paying LESS taxes now under Bush than I did with Clinton.

Massive Job Losses: Well... if your company is actually PROFITABLE (do the right thing)... you don't have to worry about this either. My company has been profitable the last ten years straight and we haven't seen any layoffs.

Out of control healthcare costs: My FW doesn't pay a DIME for her healthcare. Neither will I come May once we get married

War thats spiraling out of control: Perhaps I an agree here... but again I don't have any family members over there so I cannot comment on this. Therefore... it really isn't an issue I can base my vote on. The closest thing I have to this is... my co-worker is in Iraq right now... but he comes home in January.

The media is honestly responsible for some of the mess we are living right now. They can spin a story out of BS and because its CNN people will beleive it. That goes for politics and other issues.

Gay marraige was not the only factor he was re-elected and to play devil's advocate ..so what if it was. People spoke and tha majority were heard..Same way in 2008 we may have a democratic president with his own beliefs.

I really do believe (adn most analysts agree0 that this election was won and lost on socail issues. Bush didn't win because of Iraq or his record, he won despite it because of this stance on 'moral' issues like abortion, gay marriage, faith based initiatives, etc..
and I do find that disappointing, at least the gay marriage part, because it saddens me when so many people feel they have the right to take the rights of other people away.

I'd hate to be blunt with this... but frankly you cannot take away a right that you never had in the first place.

Its not about 'taking somebody's rights away' or 'stripping their rights'. Its more like 'making an exception' and 'adding laws/rights'. You have to go through the proper channels for that... and unfortunately... it hasn't been done in most states.

Well, then it's ensuraing that epople enver get certain rights...

and I don't see it as making an exception or special treatment..it should be the same right that you or I or anyone else on this site has

I agree with this statement 100%. This is an isue that no matter how you slice it..no one will be 100% happy. And to be honest..I think that hate crimes will go up as a result.

I voted that 'stealing the election' in 2000 was the low blow. Gore should have won that election - yeah - like that was going to happen in the state where the Govenor is the other candidate's brother! And, if the president was the legitimate winner, Gore, we wouldn' be in the situation we are now - being upset that Bush got re-elected!

Why do you think that?

I think it IS like taking rights away..it's just as bad, ebcause these are right theys hould ahve ad to begin with...they're not asking for more or differnt rights than anyone else

but not everyone believes that. ANd I think the polls showed that acceptance may not be as widespread as people may want to think.

also..what happens when/if gay marraige is passed..do you think the government should force a church to marry a homosexual couple?
Its bigger than just giving rights..its people's beleifs on both sides.

When Lincoln freed slaves, when women were given the right to vote, when segregation was ended these same parts of the country were against it ( I say that being a proud southerner). There are just certain things that will never be excepted in certain areas of our country. I guess what scares me is that we seem to cater to them and their fear an awful lot.

No, it has nothing to do with churches. it's 100% a legal issue. I think the governemt should make a distinction between marriage a civil union. As in, a church or synagogue can grant a marriage, marriage being a religious thing, and what the state gives is a civil union.

The overnment has no right to tell the churches what they can and can't do, and I think it's the same the other way around
