call it what you want Moehick..after all its just words right? And for the record I am talking for myself and no one else SOme people fel that it is forced upon them..its all a matter of how you choose to percieve it. Its just like an argument..you can say something but a person may take it the wrong way..that doesnt change how that person feels does it.
And I am not trying to say who is right or wrong..read my posts..I am talking about what is right for me and my family..thats the difference. I am not trying to talk for the rest of America. I am talking to the people here on this board who asked me to explain my views. I give up that this is an issue that as I said before we should just agree to disagree.
Hey words are just words. What is right for you and your family shouldn't be impacted by wether or not all people are looked at as equal. Why in the world would equality of people have a negative impact on anyone?

That Moehick is where the problem lies. I think it hard for a lot of people to ask themselves that question. That is an excellent point!!

obviously this is a quote that I posted a while back..I said that it doesnt matter what politicians decide but I personally will not associate marraige in the same breath as homosexuality or define it the same way I define marraige between me and my DH. I would however refer to it as a civil union becasue to me the two symbolize different things ..TO ME..I am not talking for anyone else..BUT to me. Its just like how a bear can bring comfort to a child but illicite no emotion from an adult.
If you read my posts by the way you will see that I support equality when it comes to health care and other benefits becasue those are rights that people should have in any relationship..But as usual people concentrate on one sentence and not the whole statemnt.

This is obviously not a quote you posted a while back because I have not qouted you. How honerable that you think gay people should get health coverage...Bravo...just as long as they don't have unions that you disapprove of everything is fine.

For me the problem comes when people want to answer the question for others but when it is answered just becasue it is not the answer they want to hear..the answer is probably wrong.
For example, I was bold enough to sate my beleifs and no one sees that I am not 100% anti gay but for some reason the majority have concluded that I am when in actuality my issue is the use of the word marraige to describe the union..The same way anyone feels it shouldn illicit a reaction becasue its 'just a word'..is the same way I think I can have my reaction to what the word signifies to me.

FYI..read my posts before you make assumptions ..better yet read the previous post that defines what my issue is. T.Y much. (P.s this is a saying and not a put down in anyway)
This is getting personal..dont say that it isnt..your sarcasm is coming out and I wont have a discussion with anyone that becomes sarcastic just becasue a person does not share their same views.
This is exactly why we are in the predicament we are today..becasue one side starts being condescending instead of just listening to the differing opinions.

Well, I guess we should end the conversation because I just can't understand how people can be for equality only when it fits into their neat little box of what it should entail.

The arguments that you use now are the same ones that segregationists and racists used to deny Blacks citizenship and social and ecnomic rights in this country.
There is a difference between people..some live nad let live..others lynch and perform hate crimes. The problem is that people try to force their ideals on others and use rhetoric to convince others that it is right or wrong. My beliefs are what they are and no one has a right to tell me I have to accept gay marraige just becasue you or anyone equates it to slavery and a fight for rights..many of us view the two subjects differently..
Its funny how people use the two as the same argument..that f you dont support gay marraige you are somehow spitting on the right african americans have gained.. I wonder if you would be surprised to know that not all african americans support gay marraige or that all the people who supported kerry did not support it either. But we dont go out and kill and maim.. some of us just ask that it not be forced upon us and our families just becasue so many in society think its OK.
Myasmom,
I study politics and I know that Blacks are extremely conservative when it comes to the issue of abortion and gay marriage. But I think the problem like I said again is language. People are all caught up on the word marriage. Essentially what some want to call gay marriage, I define as a legal partnership. But that's my opinion. The fact that some Blacks don't believe in gay marriage I do not equate spitting on civil rights, because they are entitled to their opinion. And they have the right to excecise that opinion in their churches.
But when they would go so far as to vote to deny them the right to benefits under the law; when they would go so far as to deny them economic and social rights under the law, yes they are rolling back civil rigths for everyone. That is what the issue of gay marriage is about right now. It not about religion, it about how the law can treat gay people who want to be life partners.
There is a distinction between 'marriage' under the law and marriage in the eyes of God. You have the right to believe gay people don't have the right to get married in the eyes of God. Your church won't condone it and most gay people know they can't get married in a church. But under the law we have a responsibility to recognize their right to equality. You are not obligated to agree with the law or even look at these partnerships as 'marriages'.

because we are not all clones. We have different DNA therefore different views..there are many laws enacted that people agree and disagree with. Thats life.

I don't see how allowing gays to be married jepordizes YOUR family values. You would still have the right to believe whatever you want. Just like, sadly, a lot of people will never except that women are equal to men, or blacks are equal to whites. Unfortunatly conversations like this only reinforce to me how much further we have to go before we are actually a country where 'All men are created equal.'

Re: Poll for Gore/Kerry voters
I dont have to explain anything its obvious that you will have your views and I will have mine and I shall teach my child(children) about MY family values and morals. You teach yours and everyone teach theirs..that is how the cycle will ocntinue regardles of if we like it or not.. SO I shall now save my breath. Goodnight..nice chatting.
I don't see how allowing gays to be married jepordizes YOUR family values
P.s I mainly have an issue with it being called marraige..so make sure you quote what I am saying not what you assume I mean (and no I am not trying to start an argument..just clarifying.
Goodnight.

I understand that you have an issue with the word marriage used inconnection with homosexuals. I still don't see how that affects your family values. Call me crazy but I define marriage as two people who love and are commited to each other. Two people who long to go through the simple daily routines and strife that life throws at us together. Two people exactly like my husband and I with one exception, sex.
Actually, I find the whole idea of the 'sanctity os marriage' argument rather amusing when you look at this country's divorce rate. Maybe we should work on fixing that instead of arguing over the definition of the word 'marriage'.

you dont have to see how it affects my family values.. that is my point..just like I dont have to recognize homosexual unions as marraige just becasue a government says I should..but YOU feel that I should..thats the difference... I can accept our differences andnot try to say someone is wrong for their beleifs just becasue you may not understand(no this comment is not meant for you specifically)
As for marraige..it is a word but it is the meaning behind the word that is important..to me..as for divorce..that is the problem..alot of people think its just a word and dont take it seriously..thats thier issue. To us its not just a word..it is greater than a few letters used to describe a union.

Who says you have to recognize homosexual unions as marriage? All you have to do is recognize them as human beings in love and expressing that love.

Uhh hello..was this meant for me..if so plese read my posts and see that I have never not said that they are not human beings expressing love. Assumptions are being made and I dont really care for it since they are incorrect and reading notions into words I thought I made clear.
What some dont understand is why the use of the word marraige affects me the way it does..I dont think there is anyone on this thread that can say that I hate homosexuals and dont feel they are human beings.

Noone is saying you hate anyone. All I am saying is homosexual or not everyone should have the opportunity to express their love in a public domain.
