POLL: For those who don't want to write something can you at least take the poll. Are there any other September 11th brides out there? I am thinking of changing the day! Do you think I am CRAZY?

Thanks girls, but as I said in an earlier post the other thing that bothers me is that so many things really didn't work out for that day to start with. First the band we originally wanted for the first date we chose before the 11th became available was booked. It had been booked almost 2 years in advance for the 11th (believe that one). We looked for 6 months for another band and had to settle for the 2nd choice. The other day my dj for my e-party told me my band doesn't read the crowd as well as the one we originally wanted. Now I am really more upset. Second, my priest originally would not marry us on the 11th bc he has a memorial service in the evening, so we had to fight him for that. I feel like I fought for the Sept 11 day when the other day, which is a Sunday there was no inconviences for except for the fact that it was a Sunday and ppl might leave early. Oh and we would have had a little less time for picts. i just feel like maybe its an omen NOT to get married on that day!

I noticed there were over 200 looks but less responses so I figured i might just take a poll for those who don't want to respond. thanks

Wow - I can't believe so many people voted for you to change the date.
I voted for you to keep it. Refer to your other thread on this for reasons...

I personally dont see the need to change it, it was tragic day, I know people who were affected, I was affected...I definately am not making light of teh day...BUT..what is the harm in turning it into a good day!!!???Why not bring something good into the day!!!! i say keep the date!!!

It's just such a tough call. I think in 7 or 8 years, it won't be such a sore spot, but some of your guests might find it offensive.
I personally think it could be an opportunity to turn the numbers 9/11 in to something positive and associate it with better memories. Ofcourse the sad memories will never be erased, but like any tragedy (presidential shootings, natural disasters) time passes and it becomes less of a taboo.
Good luck with your decision.

I am shocked at the response on this poll compared to the comments I received in my earlier posts. Now I am really torn even more!

DONT CHANGE THE DATE! It's only 1 day. It's just a date. Life goes on. Babies get born, people get promotions, people get engaged. If everyone planned to get married on a PERFECT day where nothing ever went wrong in history, then there would NEVER be any weddings....and I bet they'd probably cost a lot less!

I am really torn here. I lost two people on 9/11, not to mention the fact that my FH worked in Tower II. Now, I guess in time the day will pass and be forgotten like others: Pearl Harbor, Veterans Day..etc...However, since it is so fresh in people's minds, I am not sure that I would be able to do it. You need to think about yourself and the needs of those around you. However, on the other hand, I know that you will most likely save a ton of money that day and the day should be a celebration of life. I just really don't know. Good Luck

Here we go again.
Keep your date. I think it's a wonderful way to pay tribute to those who died by starting a new life.
I say this as a still recovering survivor stuck in Physical Therapy over two years from my injury, invite me, I'll boogie for you.
Its YOUR wedding. As others Im sure have said, years from now it will just be a memorial date (sad but true) much like D day and Memorial Day and so forth.
'its too close' what's too far from it? 'it offends others who were affected' you're bound to offend others for other things than just the date besides I can tell you that you will INSPIRE others as much as you may offend, 'people won't want to travel' well if it were a winter wedding they'd travel early to avoid the rush the same goes for 9/11. 'too much emotion' hell we are still being threatened everyday, emotions run high why not counter it with GOOD emotions for once?
I think your family is happy for you, I think your friends will be happy for you too. It's your day no matter what!
Stick with it!
I didn't read the other posts in here, i just wanted to put my opinion in.

In my personal opinion, I think that unless you have a guest who lost someone that day, you shouldn't change it. It was and always will be a tragic day but so is the bombing of Pearl Harbor and the Oklahoma City bombing. As a country we mourned (and will continue to mourn) our loss but we move onward and upward.
While the country will always remember 9/11 for the tragedy associated with the date, your guests will have another reason, a happy reason to remember that date. Just think of all the people who were born on 9/11, they can't go and change their Birthdays! So why should you change your wedding?

If I were invite to a 9/11 wedding, I would
a) not go, because it's a very sad day and nothing really can shake that feeling of loss
b) go if it were for a close friend or family member, but I'm not sure I'd be able to keep up appearances of joy all day
JMO, in all its honesty.

There has to be a point when we are no longer afraid of that date. Why can't it begin with your wedding day?
Good luck with your decision...it's a tough one.

I think you should keep the date!! You will give it a new meaning to you and your family. Nobody will ever forget what happened on that day, but atleast there will be something positive in it for you and FH. You can not change the past, but you can make the future September elevenths better!! No matter what day it is on, it will still be the best day of YOUR life!!!

She's absolutely right. Personally, I'm not the type of person who cares what other people think when it comes to this sort of thing - some people are not going to like it, and some people aren't going to care either way. You can't control it, and you can't change it so why stress it?? Will it make you happy to get married on 9/11? Will you be less happy if you got married on 9/12? its a day - yes, it was the most horrible thing I've ever seen, and yes, a lot of people died that day, but you didn't!
The first time I was a bridesmaid happened to fall on the anniversary of my grandfather's death. I thought of him that day, of course, and I felt a little bad about celebrating the day at first, but that day has happy memories for me now and not just sad ones. IMO You have to do this for you and FH, not because of what we think about it. Good luck in your decision.

IMHO, I think you should change the date as the world knows what happened on that ill-fated date 2 years ago in 2001. The media and most guests will focus on the tragic events and won't be able to focus on your wedding day. I honestly would not be able to think of any happy thoughts or even a wedding as the only thing on my mind was the events that happened in 2001 and what DH and I were doing that day. DH and I were affected as we both work in the area at that time. I work on Wall Street & Broadway and he was on Maiden Lane which are both within walking distance of the former WTC.
In respect the lives lost and the tragic events that happened, I would change the date to another date. Just my 2 cents.

I think you should keep the date. Like the others have said, it is a nice way to pay tribute to those who died, especially those who were engaged to be married and never saw that day.
