POLL: For those who don't want to write something can you at least take the poll. Are there any other September 11th brides out there? I am thinking of changing the day! Do you think I am CRAZY?
Original post by sweetnessconfused
Thanks girls, but as I said in an earlier post the other thing that bothers me is that so many things really didn't work out for that day to start with. First the band we originally wanted for the first date we chose before the 11th became available was booked. It had been booked almost 2 years in advance for the 11th (believe that one). We looked for 6 months for another band and had to settle for the 2nd choice. The other day my dj for my e-party told me my band doesn't read the crowd as well as the one we originally wanted. Now I am really more upset. Second, my priest originally would not marry us on the 11th bc he has a memorial service in the evening, so we had to fight him for that. I feel like I fought for the Sept 11 day when the other day, which is a Sunday there was no inconviences for except for the fact that it was a Sunday and ppl might leave early. Oh and we would have had a little less time for picts. i just feel like maybe its an omen NOT to get married on that day!

My boyfriend said if you change the date, then the terrorists won! DON'T let them WIN!
he'e being sarcastic, of course.....
I have to agree with this one! you should keep the date! Turn it onto a happy day for those who love you, instead of forever dwelling on what those a88holes did to us!!

IMO. DON'T CHANGE THE DATE. September 11th, 2001 was a horrible day and will always be remembered, just like December 7th is remembered. If you can't use a date for a great occasion because something bad happened on that day then you would need to remember every war and every other horrible thing that occured on a particular day. Something terrible happens everyday..... why not let something good happen everyday too.

Ok ... honestly I think that this decision should have been made BEFORE you booked.
I think it would have been understandable for you to avoid this date in the first place for obvious reasons. I didn't book it because of how many people in my life were involved and affected.
But now, having already booked, and already planned, I agree with the prior posts. To not book is one thing. To UNBOOK is another, and is tantamount to letting the bad guys win.
You already made the decision. Right or wrong, stick by it. In 20 years, you may be glad that you did.

Keep the date it has some significance to you..we were all affected by that day....I worked for United Airlines I understand fully...my fiance and I actually started our relationship that day...the only reason I did not choose that day for my wedding date (and I did at first) is because I'm still an emotional wreck from it. 9-11 was a wake up call but it is now a day of reflection and peace. Love those who are here with us after the tragic day and never forget the people we lost and lives that are forever changed.
PS - The best method to overcome tradegy is celebration.

I elected not to have mine on that day, but that was after the tragic event. If I had already scheduled prior to the event, I would not change it.

IMO, keep the date. If someone does not want to come to your wedding because of the date that's their choice but if this is the date you want for whatever personal reason then stay with it. I know its a day of tragedy, but why cant it be a day of new beginnings too?

You are obviously struggling with this. How much are you saving by not having it a week before or after?

I don't think you should change it.. It was very devastating what happened.. We will always remember that date and keep those we lost in our hearts. Why not make somethin good happen on that day. We shouldn't have to remember that day for the bad.. Your wedding is a very special day and no matter what the date you will always remember it.. I would keep your date.. God forbid, but what if you get married another day and something bad happens.. It's just the way it is.. and I don't think it's a problem..

I don't think you should change it. I would be glad to go to a wedding that day, so I wouldn't have a chance of watching TV or hearing the radio with all the sensationalism that surrounds a tragedy. It's depressing enough, but I think it'd be nice if a happy memory was made of the day. And you know what? I know most people like myself don't only think of that day on the anniversary, but on other days as well, I just think of it. Just because it's exactly 3 years from the day of it, why should it be any different if it were exactly 2 years and 11 months away from it? I'm just babbling on now, but I guess I just mean, I'm bound to remember Sept. 11 on any other day besides that day specifically?
But then again, are you inviting anyone who lost someone very close that day? Because I would imagine they might want to attend a memorial and would just not be in the mood for a wedding that day.

I think that if you and those you love are OK with it, then keep the date! However, if the decision is really bothering you, and if the date is going to be a continuing source of worry for you, then change it.

I think you should keep the date. Think of all those people who decided to get married on this date prior to the tragic events or those who's birthdays are on this date. These people will and have learned to make the best of this day because of what it means to them while still remembering what happened on this date. I aggree with what someone else said and let the happiness and forgiveness of this day start with your wedding.

I think that you should do what makes you happy. If having your wedding on 9/11 makes you happy then do it. IMO I would not want to celebrate on a day in which so many people suffered. I know time is suppose to heal wounds but it has only been a few years.
Good Luck

oh gosh , this is a hard one . You seem to be so torn. I am a big believer in 'going with the flow'...if things work out ...and fall into place, it's the right thing, if they are such a struggle, and cause you anguish....sometimes you have to sit back and reflect. Can you change your date ? I am not saying you should but if you can, just change it. Why go through this mental debate with yourself. Otherwise , if the date is set...then make the best of it. Lives were lost, but a marriage is a blessing and up there in heavan you will have such beautiful souls watching over you that day :) Good luck, and remember if it's meant to be , it will happen :)

I would keep the date not because it is a Saturday, but because you already made that decision. But if you really feel like the Sunday is better (like it seems from your posts), change it.

Keep your date!
My best friend is getting married on Sept. 11, 2004 and I will certainly be there as her bridesmaid.
As has been said previously, don't let the fear they tried to put in us stop your happiness.
to you!

In my personal opinion, I think that unless you have a guest who lost someone that day, you shouldn't change it. It was and always will be a tragic day but so is the bombing of Pearl Harbor and the Oklahoma City bombing. As a country we mourned (and will continue to mourn) our loss but we move onward and upward.
While the country will always remember 9/11 for the tragedy associated with the date, your guests will have another reason, a happy reason to remember that date. Just think of all the people who were born on 9/11, they can't go and change their Birthdays! So why should you change your wedding?
