POLL: Future MIL doesn't like my favor idea too much and now I am second-guessing...

I decided to do wedding-themed fortune cookies for each couple in a little chinese take-out box decorated with ribbon and the poem:

'A proposal in a fortune cookie started it all...
Thanks for sharing in the wedding of Denise and Paul.'
(since FI put the proposal in a fortune cookie)

I mentioned it to FI and he loves the idea, but FMIL thinks that maybe it's a little too cheap and guests would prefer something a little more 'valuable' like some sort of knick-knack or picture frame to take home and use...She wasn't rude about it at all, and did say it is ultimately up to me and FI...but since I asked for her honest opinion....

What do you guys think?

Cheap? Or just fine?

SHe suggested maybe using instead of seating cards AND have favors...just print the table # on the boxes.....

ETS: the fortune cookies themselves are edible and customized with our names and wedding date on one side of the fortune and a romantic fortune on the other side....

Lenox sell silver fortune cookies that are used as place cards. I know fortunoff sells them. They can serve both purposes. You use the cookies for your seating and have nice take out chinese containers at the tables where the guests can put them in and take them home.

I LOVE the chinese take out boxes...I used those for my Bridal shower favors (except I didn't do the fortune cookie, I did chirstmas ornaments, since my wedding was right around christmas).

Keep your favors, they're original!

I voted that I liked the idea - I think it's really cute especially with the way your FH proposed to you.

My only suggestion would be to have it per person - not per couple. I think with food-type favors, especially, it should be per person. JMO.

i think what makes a memorable wedding is when people do special lil things to customize it. when people look back on my day it was all the lil things i did to make my day my own that are remembered. i think that your idea is amazing and memorable. i dont think people go to a wedding hoping to get something valuable as a favor. if you fmil wants to do something besides what you are planning i think she should offer to purchase the favors and you can use your idea as the placecards.

i disagree with your MIL. knick-knack sort of favors almost always get tossed. how many little frames do people need??

i think your idea is perfect!! it's something out of the ordinary and it has sentimental meaning to you and FH. that is all that matters.

My FMIL doesn't like my favor either - She says people will break their teeth on them (Candy Apples) but I just ignoring her - It is becomer easier and easier as the wedding planning continues

LOL
as a bride who has an Asian Themed wedding I am bias. I think it's a great idea.

take out boxes come in EVERY color and some places will sell it with a colored ribbon (which to me is a rip off if you have the time and effort to do it on your own or its a steal if you dont want to)

Try Ebay too!

Here's just ONE
Wedthings Favors Takeout Boxes

I say go for it! have fun. I think it's a GREAT way to tie in your engagement.
