Mine was under budget based on the 10% thing, but I knew I wouldn't spend that much, b/c that would have been $4000 and I knew I wouldn't spend that much....mine will be about 3.5% including alterations, shoes, accessories....
As for that dress, maybe $4000? Only really guessing that high b/c it seems unique and it's at a runway show! haha...

i didn't really have a 'budget' in mind when looking for a dress (within reason). i wanted somehting i loved. but based on costs, mine is under what i expected to spend.
your decision might depend on how important it is to have 1 specific dress and if u are willing to skimp or budget other stuff down to spend more on a dress etc.

I've never heard of the 10-15% of your budget thing. But if I stay on budget, my dress would be 7.8% of my wedding.

There was only so much i was willing to spend on a dress I would only wear once. i would NOT spend more then 2k, but it wasnt a % of my budget, that was just where I stood.

i felt this way too. i said i would only spend btwn $1500 and 1800 and wasn't thinking about my budget. that is under budget if i go by the 10-15% rule though.

same here.....after the all the discounts my dress came out to a little over $1,100.00 my wedding dress is less than 2% of what i think we might spend on the wedding...there is no way i would have spent 10% of my wedding budget on a dress - that would have been like 6K! no way jose!

i agree with the crapiness of the budget - spend what you want and can afford....there was no way i was going to spend more on my dress b/c of what some buget said!

I had a set amount ($1,000) that I didn't want to go over for gown, tiara, and veil- I ended up going a bit over (like 100% over ..lol) for gown, shoes, tiara, veil, blusher. undergarments, and DoJ...still not bad considering how great I'll look The gown itself was about $1,050 without any alterations.
