Every article I read about budgeting for wedding says your dress should be 10-15% of your budget.
How much of your budget does your dress eat up (with alterations, shoes, jewelry )?
What do you think this dress is worth?

Re: POLL: Is your dress within budget?
Well, I was going to get a dress from David's Bridal and my Mom is like 'Ugh. NO WAYYYYY!'
She pisses me off. So this weekend, my a$$ is being dragged to some Salons in NY. I told my Mom- whatever is out of my budget, I am not paying for it. Now she says she is buying my dress! So it won't affect my budget and now I have extra money for something else.

Re: POLL: Is your dress within budget?
mine is really under budget. when i went looking i didnt set an amount i wanted to spend, neither did my aunt who wanted to buy it for me. we just wanted to go and try on dresses and whatever dress i fell in love with was the one we got. it turned out to be so affordable and leaves us with so much money left over to spend on other things. to me, spending thousands on a dress im going to wear for one day wasnt worth it. thats just my opinion though.

This makes me mad for so many reasons. I was a snob against David's in the beginning. I was like 'hell no. I ain't getting no dress from David's.' I went to Macy's Bridal, Bridal Suite in Centereach and the Bridal Suite in Bay Shore, tried on about 50 dresses and I hated all of them. My friend suggested David's and I was so eh about it. I went there with a puss on my face. I tried on 3 dresses and when I tried on my 4th dress I was in love. I purchased my dress on the spot. It fit like a glove. No alterations needed. I know this is not how it happens for everyone, but, it's always worth a shot.

Yea, I really liked one dress. As if now, it's my first choice. Honestly, at first I was AGAINST Davids'. I went there last Saturday and loved 2 of the million dresses I tried on. My mother told me the dress I tried on looked cheap. I personally don't think so. So, to make her happy- I am going to Bridal Relections and Macy's. We'll see what happens. I may hate them all or may like something better.

You have to love it and feel comfortable in it. Your mom isn't the one wearing it. Macy's ONLY carries Demetrios. Just a heads up.

Re: POLL: Is your dress within budget?
6.3% of my total budget but my mom paid for it as her gift to me. My dress was originally $750 but we had to add a extra size to it (now i lost weight and didn't need it) and i got a custom jacket I wanted so that tacked on a few more undred.

that budget thing is crap --
my dress was like 3 or 4% of our total wedding budget
just go with what you like and decide whether its just enough or too much
ITA. Mine was about 6-7% of my budget. Go with a dress you like and can afford.

Re: POLL: Is your dress within budget?
i agreee with everyone who posted stick to what you want to spend on your dress. i spend less then i wanted, knowing full well that i was only going to wear it once. hope that helps

Re: POLL: Is your dress within budget?
I voted for 5% .... but that included everything
My dress was definitely under budget on its own, but I had an expensive ribbon tie bustle ... Thomas Knoell hair jewelry, bracelet, earrings .... air brush make up ...

My daddy is going to buy my dress so I didn't put it in my budget at all.

Re: POLL: Is your dress within budget?
Agreed with the above that it's best to stick to a dollar figure and stick to it. I spent less than 5% on my white wedding dress, Asian reception dress, alterations, shoes, etc. I cringed at the idea of spending multiple thousands on a dress I'd only wear for a few hours.

Re: POLL: Is your dress within budget?
about 5% if you include bustle, alterations, tax etc...
