What's the big deal about having someone else do it? Just curious. I mean, I'm sure if I practiced for the next six months, and do a little research, I could figure out how to make my own makeup last all night . . . no?
I mean, is a professional REALLY necessary?
Opinions please! I've been very turned off by recent experiences!
And also, are you doing your own makeup?

Re: POLL So, does EVERYONE use a makeup professional?
I do a pretty good job on my own makeup. If I don't find someone I am completely satisfied with then I'll prob do it myself.

I had a trial with Marie Katz. I loved it. I booked her on the spot. I could never do what she did.

Re: POLL So, does EVERYONE use a makeup professional?
In my case, it's more complicated since I'm going away and have no clue of what type of job they will do. I'm researching makeup artists in that area, because makeup is very important to me. It's the only day that I want to look like I haven't looked before, and I want it to reflect on the pics as well.

I do my own makeup very well, but I just didn't want to worry about it the day of and I want to make sure it lasts all day.
Re: POLL So, does EVERYONE use a makeup professional?
I'm using a make-up artist. Her name is Janet Bari (JanetBari.com). She's been doing bridal make-up for years. During the week she works for Lancome in Bloomingdales in NYC. A bunch of my friends have used her in the past. She does great work.
The best part- she comes to you the morning of your wedding- so there is no running around.
If you want tell her Robin gave you her name!

I wouldn't dream of trying to do my own makeup on my wedding day, practiced or not. It's too hectic of a day, your nerves are shot, and you won't be able to really concentrate from all the excitement. Plus, the 45 minutes or so that I was forced to sit still for my makeup artist really helped calm me down. She was not part of the wedding party, she was not family, so she just talked to me like it was any old day and any old time -- and that was a good thing actually! (Of course we talked about the wedding too)
Yes you can practice, yes you can do research but come on - you are going to be sooooo excited that day! I could barely get my panties on that morning and that's something I do everyday without thinking about!!!

I wouldn't- for all the reasons Jimmy'sBride said. You could easily spend more on make up application lessons and different products than a trial and the day of with a makeup artist. And I just suck at putting on makeup.

Thanks! I emailed her to see if she's available on my date, and said Robin recommended her to me I'll let you know if I end up setting up a trial with her!

Re: POLL So, does EVERYONE use a makeup professional?
I am actually very good at doing make-up of all kinds, but I'm not a professional. My wedding day is very special(duh!!) so I want to look extra special so I am definetly having my Make-up done.

I'm using a girl who my friend knows from work - they both work for Estee Lauder. I don't know if I'd call her a make-up artist, but she does make-up & did a great job on my trial. She is coming to my house the day of.

I am doing my own. No one knows how I look better than me and with a little practice, I can get the look I want.
Go with what you are comfortable with.

Re: POLL So, does EVERYONE use a makeup professional?
i has two trials with LIW vendors who were both nice but i walked away thinking i can do this (i love make-up and own a bunch) so i decided to buy a few things and do it myself vice spend the money on someone ...i really don't think having it done is a benefit to me.

Re: POLL So, does EVERYONE use a makeup professional?
A friend of mine did my make-up. We went to MAC had my make-up done, purchased all the stuff and she did it for me on the BIG day!
I think it came out great and it stayed all day and night!
Re: POLL So, does EVERYONE use a makeup professional?
IMO...what you are not going to realize that professionals know..what is just the right amount of make-up you should have on, how to accenuate certain areas and how to tone down others for the cameras... I also think that it was a luxury that was and is sorely needed on the day of your wedding...To be able to sit and just have it done for you... IMO it is well worth the money you spend on it and IMO they really know how to do their job to make sure that your pictures (the thing you usually spend the MOST on, aside from the hall) turn out to be as fabulous as you wanted... IMO doing it yourself can backfire on you big time...a risk i wouldn't take! I HIGHLY suggest you get a professinoal..

Re: POLL So, does EVERYONE use a makeup professional?
I had a friend do it. She is not a professional, but has done makeup for other people for events and I thought she did a good job. I have had it professionally done once or twice and it was just too much for me. She did a great job, mroe natural but enough that it looked good in my photos. I also didn't think it was worth it to me to spend that much money on makeup and I really wasn't that nervous on my wedding day.
I guess it really depends a lot on what you are looking to have done and how nervous you get. I personally think I would have been more nervous having strangers around me while I was getting ready. Since my mom was not there for me, and it was a little emotional through the planning, I was more comfortable just having people around me that I knew. JMO.
