Poll Time: Groom's Gift - If you like me, please help me!
My darlin' FH already gave me my wedding gift after he came back from St. Thomas in the Fall. He got me a diamond tennis bracelet that I'll wear the day of the wedding. It's stunning.
That said, I HAVE to get him something. I want to give him something that he will truly enjoy and love. I have yet to give him a present besides Sirius Radio that he actually likes. I have a few options and PROS/CONS for each for your review. Please take my poll and tell me what you think I should do.
1. Cigar Roller at Wedding. PRO: He loves cigars with a passion and he would love it. CON: Smelly if people light up (it'll be at the end) and most importantly, I won't be able to tell him till the guy comes (cause it has to be a surprise) and then what do I do at the Rehearsal Dinner? Do I mention that I have something for him at the wedding? I feel like he'll guess it. Also, we are having every possible upgrade at our wedding so is it overkill for our guests?
2. A piece of jewelry, specifically diamond cufflinks. PRO: Beautiful, Can give him at Rehaersal Dinner, Something that LASTS. CON: He hates jewelery (won't even wear our ring) and I already bought him a TAG watch.

3. Sporting Events Thing PRO: He's a guy, would love some sort of sporting events ticket or something. CON: Have no idea where I would get this, what I would get, etc. etc. etc. He works weird hours, seriously have no clue how to get this.
4. Plasma TV I can't buy the whole thing, but maybe I could 'put money' towards it...kinda fake buy it. I know, kinda cheesey, but I know he really wants one and I originally wanted to do this and that's why it's on this list.

Leese, I know it is UBER-Expensive, BUT, I would say go with the tv...and here is WHY...
most retail outlets (Circuit City, Best Buy ect.) have finance options that involve NO INTEREST for a certain time period. You can put a downpayment on it as his 'gift' (however much you can afford) and 'finance' the rest using this option. then you can either pay it in full with some of the wedding money, or pay it off gradually (as long as you do it within the time period, you only pay for what you purchased) also, both you and Frank can make the subsequent payments.
I have though about the same thing..and MAY consider doing it.
the con to that is that you are in effect opening another 'debt' on your credit report, so it house hunting is in your future, you should be able to pay it off before you start shopping for a mortgage.

I agree about the TV. If you can afford a decent down payment, then you should be able to pay it off together, pretty quickly, after the wedding. Think about all the wedding gifts you got at your shower that he couldn't care less about- this is one that he would LOVE, I know my FH would. Plus, you can use it as leverage to get him to relinquish the remote once in a while!

I voted for the cufflinks, it's something that he can wear on your wedding day to go with the tennis bracelet that you'll be wearing. Then he can wear them whenever he needs to wear a tux which won't be too often anyway. So it won't really impede his dislike for jewelry.
Good luck! I'm sure whatever you choose he'll absolutely love!

I'd say the sporting event.
But if you go with the TV, don't get a plasma. Go with LCD.

I was just going to say this. check out Sharp Aquos and Philips. 42 inchers...flat panel, HD ready or HDTV...you can get them for less than $3000
Frank got you a 'gasper' something you gasp at when you open it b/c you are so taken aback...I don't feel like tix to a sporting event will have the same effect LOL, especially when that could just as easily be a bday gift or something...
cufflinks..I am not a big fan of getting someone a gift they will NEVER like or wear, even if it serves a function
cigar roller...it's too much of a 'shared gift'...since it's for your guests as well...

Close call between tv and sports event. Is he really into a sport - them I might do that one since you can wrap the tickets, etc. If not, I would say the tv (I agree LCD) - since he really wants that and I am sure will get tons of use out of it.

Sporting Event..if you want to get tix, try Ebay or StubHub. You can try and get him tix to a major event like the Belmont Stakes...or the US Open (golf) at Winged Foot in Westchester...or the US Tennis Open in Queens.

Here is the thing about the TV. Yeah, I am definitely into it. But unless I can pay for it myself, I am not really into it.
I just feel like what if he wants one type of brand and I get the other? And I feel like since I am the poor one in the relationship, he'll end up paying for it in the end. And I wouldn't want that.....
Gotta be honest, that's not my personal number one.... due to what it would take to pay for it.

so then, why don't you do the cigars, but with a twist....
get the cigar roller for the reception, but get Frank some really really really GREAT cigars for his 'private collection' LOL. see if you can get some cubans....shouldn't be too hard..and maybe a really nice cutter and a humidor. you can give him his gift at the RD, and save the cigar roller and PART II, 'surprise' at the reception.
I feel you on the cost of the tv...really I do. I am in the same boat...always feel like I am rowing with one less oar than fh...ya know.
