I've only have had one in my life that it took me a long time to realize it. I called her out on things she did and severed all ties with her after 20 years of friendship and have not regretted it a day since.
You can be there and help these people only so many times. If they don't get better they sooner or later turn their toxicity on you (usually the closest person to them). That is when you do it.
I see the person once in a blue moon now and are corgial to them, but i don't sit down and have a chat with them.

Re: Poll: Toxic Friends
I slowly distance myself from them, and sever ties one by one. I find that their poison seeps into my life, and its an awful feeling. Like being sucked on by a leech.

Re: Poll: Toxic Friends
I am at a point in my life where I have a hard enough time keeping in touch and seeing the friends who make it easy. I don't have the time or inclination to put up with friends who make my life difficult, put unreasonable demands on me, or are so toxic I hate being around them.

She does neither, which is why she's useless to me!

Re: Poll: Toxic Friends
If they are an independany friend, you can slowly lose touch. That worke dwith a HS friend of mine.
I have 1, who is connected to otehr peopel, so I dont' stay in touch on my own qwit her, but it woudl be pretty obvious if I didn't include her in group things, so I can't really get out of that one.

Re: Poll: Toxic Friends
I had a friend like this for a very long time. We were always on and off, but I severed all contact with her about 3 years ago and my life is much happier now.

yes, i did the same exact thing. we tried to make it right after all was said and done but i realized i was the only one trying and then that i was still being upset by things. i just cut the whole thing off

Re: Poll: Toxic Friends
It's difficult to do but the best thing I ever did was sever ties with a very toxic friend. It was actually more her going crazy that ended it but I am so much better without her.

Re: Poll: Toxic Friends
When I found trying to avoid a person didn't work, I just severed all ties. I told him it was the last straw and I was really tired of some of the things he was doing, and of course being the WONDERFUl person that he was, he didn't realize this. But I stopped tlaking to him, stopped taking his calls and I've never looked back and I really see how much better off I am without all of his drama in my life. One of the things that was so toxic abut this guy is that he was jeakous of my every accomplishment and undermined every single one of them. If I got a good grade in a class it was because I had wednesdays off and therefore had more time to study, nevermind that it just meant I had more classes on the other 4 days and that I was working 2 jobs and he was working none. Anyway, looking back I feel SO relieved that he's gone.

Re: Poll: Toxic Friends
according to me, i 'broke up' with my friend two years ago. i don't think she really got it though, because she constantly drunk dials me. when you are 29 years old, your friends should not be calling you at 5:45am strung out on c*&%!! this is just one of the reasons i dumped her.
