Re: POLL! Upgrade e-ring?
these questions are making me feel really upset. I feel like there is a lot of negative judgement being passed toward the women who would upgrade their rings, as if we do not appreciate what we were given.
edited to add: I guess I am not understanding the question correctly. I certainly wouldn't go shopping one day and just come home with a new diamond. But, if DH gave me an upgrade as a gift, I would LOVE it!
My parents are divorced. My mother gave me the e-ring that my father gave her. I am having the stone set into a pendant. Does that mean that I don't love nor appreciate my father?

Absolutely NOT!!! I have an heirloom, and by NYC standards my center stone is small (less than 1/2 carat) and I couldn't care less. I do plan to upgrade, and it isn't because I don't love the ring or my future inlaws, I just want something of my own one day. Rings are personal, don't let anyone make you feel guilty for doing what you want with whatever jewlery you have.

I would never upgrade my ring, but it may be easy for me to say that since I love my ring. For the most part, I think it's got to be pretty offensive to someone's FH or DH. I personally find it kind of rude. JMHO

Maybe I am interpreting the question differently. It seems that you and your DH have always had the idea out there to upgrade, and that's fine. But I think for a woman to go to her FH or DH and say, 'you know, my ring is nice but I'd like you to go buy me a bigger stone/change my setting.' I think that's just mean. It's got to make the guy feel like sh!t.

this is what I meant by posting this poll.
A poll is more anonymous, and people would not have to share their answers, as in the other post.

NO offense intended!!! I just made the other thread into a POLL, so that there weren't names associated w/ preference. I was curious what people honestly think about this.

I youldn't want fh to upgrade mine. I would feel it just isn't the same ring if he did. But he knows my feelings on this and would never just upgrade it for me as a gift, even though it is a nice gesture.

Everyone does what's best for THEM. There's no way I could ever pass judgement on anyone for something like that. Just because something works for me, does not mean that it should work for someone else. Personally, there will be no upgrades for me. Maybe in ten years, that will change. So for the time being, no.

Re: POLL! Upgrade e-ring?
My FI did a lot of research, a lot of looking, and lot of thought into my ring. He would be really hurt if I were to ask for an upgrade.
However, everyone's circumstances are different.
If I ever decided that I want more or bigger diamonds in the future (and assuming that we have the $$), I would opt for an anniversary band, or just another diamond ring, in addition to the e-ring .

Re: POLL! Upgrade e-ring?
Never!!! But FH let me pick my setting& he got the Center stone w/ his parents... In MHO it's a nice sized ring (it's the biggest out of all my friends)I love it.... However I did request an Amethyst in lieu of a diamond(I have a diamond) b/c I think it's more important to own a home sooner....
