I would upgrade my ring in one way only....to change it from white gold to platinum to go with the wedding band I have.
Otherwise, I would keep it exactly as is!!!
ETA: I also was the one who picked the ring, and we were together when I chose it. So it's not like he chose it himself and I have some great romantic story to go with the proposal.

I also have my grandmothers ring it is less than 1/2 carat it is set in an antique style setting i love it but I still feel like I would like my own diamond and when we have the extra money I will change it out and pass it down to my daughter I would like to keep it in my family I loved my grandmother dearly.

I would just change the band, but I love the center stone. I picked the ring, so while it does have sentimental value I dont think his feelings would be hurt by doing this.

I think the engagement ring is a symbol of where the two of you were at that time. If you 'upgrade' it then its not really your e ring anymore....

I need to change the setting, but only because one of the prongs is knocking into one of the diamond in my w-ring. I'm probably going to end up with a similar setting but higher off the hand.
I chose the setting myself after DH proposed, otherwise I would probably not want to change it for sentimental reasons and just wear the e-ring on my right hand.

i think its up to you my original e-ring had a channel setting with the center round stone and fiance and i just picked out our wedding bands and the one we fell in love with wasnt channel set so we changed my e-ring setting to match my w-ring i dont feel like it took away from anything....we love eachother thats all that matters

The thought has crossed my mind as far as changing the band on my e-ring so that it would match my wedding band but it's just a thought and thats as far as it will get.
My e-ring is important to me because my DH asked me to marry him with this ring. It symbolizes our love and that special day he asked me to be his wife therefore I wouldn't change it for the world.

I would consider it. My e-ring (the stone anyway) is a family stone as well. But if say down the road, FH bought me one of those 'past present future' rings for an anniversary or something, I would take it and love it just as much.
I do love my e-ring, but I love it the most for its sentimental value (the stone was my mom's, who passed away, but we got it re-set) If I were to pick out a ring on my own though, it wouldn't be the ring that I have.
What I've got is a large pear with a plain band. What I'd pick if money was no object is a princess cut stone, probably 1+ carats (the stone I've got is gorgous, but two big for my little hand, IMO.)

Everyone does what's best for THEM. There's no way I could ever pass judgement on anyone for something like that. Just because something works for me, does not mean that it should work for someone else. Personally, there will be no upgrades for me. Maybe in ten years, that will change. So for the time being, no.
WELL SAID. For me it's no, I know my mom upgraded her setting and kept the stone...different for all..
