POLL:Wedding Debt

How much debt will you have after your wedding? (Wedding gifts aside) In other words are you putting anything on credit cards to be paid later?

Re: POLL:Wedding Debt

I put $0 debt because FH & I are paying for everything upfront with cash.
The only thing that will be on the credit card is our honeymoon - that's only because we wanted the insurance that if something went wrong, we weren't paying for it! We are taking such a big trip (Africa) that we wanted to wait until we got back to pay it off ... I hope that makes sense.

Re: POLL:Wedding Debt

Thankfully - we were completely debt free after the wedding, we paid for it ourselves and made sure we had the money - no credit cards!

Re: POLL:Wedding Debt

We wouldn't have the wedding if we would be in debt after it. It was something FH and I discussed right after our engagement.

Re: POLL:Wedding Debt

No friggin' way am I going into debt for this wedding. Well, since I cancelled all my credit cards before I got engaged, that made it easy, didn't it?

I think 'debt free' is the way to go. I'm hearing what some people are spending on their wedding, and if they're putting it on credit cards, Lord help them.

Re: POLL:Wedding Debt

That is one thing we avoided at all cost was wedding debt. We totally stayed in our budget, and the day after the wedding, it was all over with no lingering bills

We're doing the same thing with the honeymoon. We were going over the budget last night and realized we had enough money for all the payments and wouldn't have to use credit cards. We were kinda surprised cuz a few months ago it looked really tight so we made a monthly budget and really changed our spending habits. Very happy that it worked out this way.

I was curious after all the planning and budgeting and with EVERYTHING costing more than we anticipated when this all began, how many other couples, especially those paying for it on their own planned well enough not to have to go into debt.

Thanks to all for responding.

Re: POLL:Wedding Debt

I answered no debt, that is why we had such a long engagment because we wanted no debt and actual we should by the time the wedding comes have extra money. We also own our own townhouse so we also needed more time to save.

Re: POLL:Wedding Debt

We failed to have a long conversation about this before booking a hall and planning the wedding. We dont have enough $ for the wedding. My mom is letting us charge our honeymoon and rings on her card, and we will pay her with our wedding gifts.

Re: POLL:Wedding Debt

If all works out...he only debt we are leaving ourselves with is the honeymoon, which will most likely be put on a credit card and the balance for photo/video. Our balance for themis not due until after the wedding when we get our proofs/album so that is $3000 that we won't have to worry about while planning.

Re: POLL:Wedding Debt

no debt. got a second job to save and pay for the extra things i don't want to have to run to my dad, family, or FH for like bridesmaids gifts, FH ring, my beauty junk, dress and shoes, and other expenses. Dad has enough to handle with the reception and stuff.

Re: POLL:Wedding Debt

Since FH and I are paying for 150% of everything - we'll end up with about $10K in debt for a $35K budget. We'll probably use our home equity, so we at least get some benefit - other than a wonderful day!

Re: POLL:Wedding Debt

We are planning to pay for everything in cash. If we have to use a cc, I hope not more than $500. But we'll see. It may be easier said than done!

I refuse to put anything on credit card. If I can't pay for it up front then I'm not getting it.

No debt.
We did use credit cards when we could in case something went wrong but had the money to pay them off.
