When I started planning our wedding I thought black would be a horrible color for a wedding... but after seeing so many pics of BMs in black, I really started to love it. Its definitely elegant looking, and will go with any color flowers, and cane asily be brightened up with bright flowers. Maybe find some pics to show your mom?

I am a bridesmaid in august and wearing black- thank god - it will make me skinnier
also in my uncle's wedding the bm's wore black
whenever my family disagrees with my wedding plans - i come on this web page and get opinions to back me up- print them- or email them to help shut em up- do that - especially with the black dress thing- in today;s world- its so acceptable that its ridiculous to even make an argument against that imo

you know, thats an excellent point. Men wear black to the wedding almost always so whats the big idea if the BM's match them. People are used to the seeing color. They are not able to look outside the norm

My friend did her winter BM dresses in black satin, which was very elegant. Instead of having the girls carry flowers, they each had a fuzzy muff.
I think black is fine. It's elegant & they can still use the dress aftewards. Plus it's easy to accesorize with. You can add a sash for a splash of color, colorful shoes... whatever you want.

My mom was against black also-- It's a older mentallity --I think
My friend had her BMs wear black and everyone looked great! It was such a flattering color for all the different body types and I think black is elegant

I hate black and I rarely wear it. I think most people actually look pretty washed out in black - I don't think I've ever known anybody who I didn't think looked better in a nice color. FH isn't even wearing black, he's wearing charcoal gray. Black is too severe on most people, in my opinion. To me elegant and flattering have more to do with the cut of the dress than whether or not it's black.
the only time I wore black for a formal event was a black dress for my sister's Bat Mitzvah, and every time I see the pictures from then, I shake my head and wonder what I was thinking - I looked horrible that night - my skin looks so pasty in the pictures that I practically look gray. No black for me again, if I can help it.
and it does remind me of a funeral, but that's not necessarily why I don't like it... I just don't.
