I mentioned to a few people in my family that my BM's and MOH with be wearing black.
Why ? Cause I dont have awedding color, i want to be free of sticking to a color.
Everyone always say 'No, you cant do black, thats depressing, i think its elegant'
What do you think ?

Honestly, when planning my wedding, I didn't want my BMs in black bc the GM were going to be in black tuxes. I wanted my girls in a nice springy splash of color, so that's what I went with bc it was my wedding. But I would never say anything to a bride who chose black for their BMs, I do see it as elegant (and practical since they can wear it again) but it just wasn't right for what I was going for with my wedding.
I'm sorry that people knock your ideas, but I would just respond by pointing out that it's different wearing black to a wedding vs. a funeral. At a wedding the girl's hair and M/U is done, they're carrying flowers, and most importantly they're smiling and happy to be there; not depressing at all!!

oooh, I have a GREAT black bridal party story for you.
My BM's are wearing black and ivory. FMIL found out about this a couple months ago and FREAKED OUT. Apparently, 'it's bad luck for any female family member to wear black at a wedding'
Mind you, FMIL is a really superstitious Pole, and FH's family is accustomed to placating her... and just avoiding black to avoid her odd comments. (she said her brother died of cancer at age 55 becuase his wife wore black shoes on her wedding day )
This conversation resulted in my ONLY bridezilla moment. FH couldn't understand why I refused to change their outfits. All I have to say is his family is totally whipped by her, but I'm NOT.

Isn't it great how EVERYONE has an opinion about YOUR wedding!!! Don't listen to them!! My girls are going to be in black also, and I completely agree with you. Black is elegant, sophisticated and very dressy, plus who doesn't look good in it?! It's very easy to look like a giant peep in a pepto bismol pink dress, but in black - your girls will loook awesome. In the beginning I *tried* to listen to everyone, and to take everyones feelings and opinions into consideration, and then I realized that there's just no pleasing everybody. YOUR wedding. YOUR decision! Just remember that!

i know in the past everytime i would wear black to a wedding (which is ALWAYS) my grandmother would tell me i was not in an appropriate attire for a wedding... she used to tell me Black was for funerals...
BUT I love Black dresses and it is my signature color - I think it is sooo ELEGANT... I would have had my BM wear black but i did not want to hear it from my grandmother and her side comments... so my girls are in espresso brown (close enough)

Depending on time and place of the occasion. If i'm going to a day wedding I'll probably wear something 'non-black', like green or gold.
If you're mom doesn't like to wear black, perhaps you can suggest to her to wear something..maybe navy blue, chocolate brown, gold. Its still dark color.

I also heard the b!tching when I mentioned black for my wedding. It was even a double whammy because I was getting married in the Spring. Oh, the horror!!!! Black is my favorite color and I love it with red. This is what I always dreamed about. BM wearing black and carrying red boKs. Even DH likes the colors together.
The same people that vented the loudest were the same ones telling me they loved the BM dresses on the wedding day.
Why is it 'normal' for guys to wear black, but horrible for the girls to wear black?

P.S. My girls are wearing black, and they are all thrilled not to be wearing a color that may/may not compliment their skin tone
