I've always given cash and a co-worker told me that it was impolite...
I told her that I'd rather receive cash from a guest than a check b/c it could bounce!!!!

Check here.... just in case some one steals the envelopes. Also, if you go into a bank with (hopefully) a bunch of checks for (hopefully) several hundreds of dollars I am sure a bank will realize that it is a wedding!

I give checks just in case a card gets misplaced.
It's happened to me
I was just going to write the same thing! I once went to a wedding and we left the gift on the cocktail hr table, and I had a hear attack, worrying that someone could steal the cash we gave. Now I always write a check!

I always give cash, I guess because that's what my mom does! I can't see any reason why either cash or a check would be 'impolite' to give as a gift. Did your co-worker say why they thought giving cash was impolite?

Always give a check in case it gets lost or stolen.. Once cash is gone it's gone, you can always stop payment on a check if anything were to happen to it. Also, you will always know that your gift has been received by the bride once it comes out of your account... you always here these stories about a bride not getting a gift from a close friend and always wondering if it got misplaced or stolen and being too afraid to confront the friend.

Re: POLL: When giving monetary gifts at a wedding...
I was reading a wedding story from this bride in england. Her and her husband climbed into the limo after their wedding to go to the hotel and they realised they had NO money on them to tip the driver. They looked into the gift back and found mostly check but thankfully his aunt gave him cash in a card and she saved the day. So my advise, cash is always good.

This is the reason I give checks. FH recently put alot of cash in a card at a wedding and just left it in this cage thing...I keep worrying that the couple didn't get it
ETA: I never heard about it being rude or anything

I do both, it depends on how close I am with the couple.
I do the same.
I don't understand why your coworker would say giving cash in impolite.
