OMG! The FILs are already DYING for a grandkid and we aren't even married- FFIL said he would pay for our son's hockey equipment, hockey lessons ( FH is a big hockey lover). Sadly we have no plans to have any little kiddies any time soon (poor FILs!). When we got engaged they toasted to us having 'alot of bambinos'

Well, I know my parents got one from my Dad's parents for their wedding present. I'm not expecting this from my FIL's though.

I have a friend (she is from LI) who told me once that it was tradition that the woman's family buy the bedroom furniture set. But, that was the first I had ever heard of anything like that.

actually yes, but it's the other way around in my culture, my parents are buying bedroom furniture for us.
His parents purchased living room and dining room furniture for us.

I heard of BP putting towards it.... YEAH I WISH MINE GAVE US THAT, HECK I WISH I GET SOMETHING OTHER THEN AN ENVELOPE

my parents bought us our LR, DR, and Kitchen Cabinets as well as the whoole wedding.... I think BR is on our own unless FIL's want to pay ( see above)

I must say that I've heard about this being done in the past, but Im not sure if it should be considered a tradition since it is not done very often...this is VERY OLD SCHOOL though...I think its hard to see someone vent about something like this since we're all pretty much independent and hard 'azz' working women and men that are paying for our own weddings...

However, let her vent if she wants to...I don think she asked for anyone's opinions...

i don;t know... i'm grown and have a job. FH also has a great job... but my parents as well as his parents are contributing to our wedding as well as giving us a lot of home stuff... we didn't ask for it, they just give... I don't think that's an indictment of my level of responsibility as an adult. That's just how our parents are...

I never heard of this 'tradition' before today either but my MIL DID buy us a bed as my shower gift and now I'm wondering if she knows of some kind of tradition where that's what you do...

p.s. I think it's kinda gross in a way - if we were doing the 'bam shiky bang bang' in a bed my IL's bought - I wouldn't be able to get that out of my skull.

You're killing me with this!!! My MIL bought the bed frame and my dad bought the mattress..

Only reason I've heard of this is because this happened to my MOH, her in-laws bought them a bedroom set as a wedding gift.

I didn't know it was a tradition though, and No, my FILs are not buying us one.
