Poll...baby related, SORT OF. debate with DH.

I've already decided on a name for a girl...but he is suddenly pushing Caitlyn/Kaitlyn.

Aside from already not liking the name...I say that people will think we named the child after my mother and/or me:

she's CATherine and my middle is LYNn.

He says no one would see the resemblence.

What do you think?

so he lost on a name b/c someone we know named their daughter with it [even though i already have 2 cousins with it and didn't want to use the name]...now Kaitlyn has been taken by another friend of ours. AWESOME. i am thrilled. hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. Now I don't have to use it or hear anymore about it!

I hate that name. It's so Rice Chex to me. very plain. no hutzpah, no personality.

Agreed. It is a name that is way overused. It is one of my least favorite girl names. I also don't like names that can be spelled 20 different ways so that your name is spelled wrong consistently. I also don't like the name Madison. I guess I just don't like names that are cliched because everyone and their brother named their child the same name for a year or two. I guess when I have a child I will be picking from the bottom 5 baby names of the year.

To answer your original question, I think people would assume that you named her after yourself and your mom, if they knew you both.

What are the other names you are considering?

It's a secret. hahaha.

I am keeping the real name quiet for now, just in case I change my mind. Plus, we are keeping it from everyone!

i said that i would think the baby was being named after your mother and you - but only bc i am a psycho and my top girl name is AnnaMaria for my MIL JoAnn and my mom Maria. . . so I always think of combos like that - most normal people wouldnt.

oh and just a tip if anyone in your family is also expecting , , , you may want to lay claim to the name - i lost Emelia to my SIL i mean i had no right to claim it since i am not even married yet but maybe if we werent keeping it a secret they would have picked something else!.

I like that name!! I don't know anyone with it so it seems different to me.

However, I do see it as a combo name btw your and your mom's names. Esp with the C-spelling.

I hear both names extensively here in Texas. Maybe it is a southern thing. But I do have a cousin in Brooklyn named Kaitlin. I have 5 co-workers who had baby girls in the last 3 years that all named their daughters Madison.

I don't think anyone is going to make that connection. You two probably think about it more than anyone else does. Besides, it's not a name that sounds hyphenated like Mary-Ann.

I know someone who named her daughter Ripley and a guy who named his son Greyson. Now those are cool names.

My friends just had a baby and named him Greyson - super cool name. By any chance does your friend live in CT?

I'm not the biggest fan of Caitlyn either but again, that is just my opinion. I like different names - irish-galic names are my fav's but of course the 2 names I LOVE for boys are so overused that I doubt i will even consider them when the time comes - Liam and Aiden.

No, my friend lived in New York and now lives in Florida.

For a minute there I thought you said that your first name was Lynn. I was sitting here wondering where I got Cheryl from. But then I re-read.

I like Kaitlyn with a K (b/c I am a K woman). I see what you mean about your name and your mom's. However, I think you will be surprised at how many people do not put that together anyway.
