Poor FH

Poor FH

With a little over two weeks to the wedding my FH has been going through so much with his back and been seeing so many Dr's. He has herniated discs and one is sitting on his sciatic nerve so after two months in pain he is going to get an epidural steroid injection tommorow and I am hoping it will work. Not only that but yesterday when he was at work (it was his first day back in a week) he got a piece of metal in his eye and had to go to the ER. They had to scrape it out of his eye and all day he had to wear a patch. Please say prayers that the injection will work and he will be relieved of all the pain. I know that things could be a lot worse but I hate to see him like this.

My prayers are with your FH, I had 3 epidural steroid injactions. I know the kind of pain that he is in, I hope that they work for him. I'm still in alot of pain. I hope FH feels better very soon.

He should ask about muscle relaxers, like Skelaxin, which allows you to be functional-I have slipped discs also (occupational hazard of being a klutz),and they have saved me many times! BTW...I had the injection and it works miracles!

He has been on Skelaxin for two months and it really only dulls the pain

Ahh...that's not what it is supposed to do. Now that I know that he was prescribed something, it is really trial and error and he should tell his doctor if they are not working properly. I personally have the best luck with either Soma or Flexeril. Also pain meds for breakthrough pain help. I am also a fan of Lidocaine patches...they are sub-dermal, so you put them on...in conjunction with treatment, I put them on after a hot shower and I find them helpful!

I hope he feels better! That really stinks!

In my case they did not work, but that doesn't mean that they won't work for you FH. Each case is different, the worse part for me is, is that the steroids made me gain back all of the weight that I had lost. On day when the weather is bad I feel it the most.

I got hurt on the job.

I hope it works and that he feels better!

My FH had the same thing (got it from working out too hard at the gym). The shot worked but only short term. He eventually opted for surgery and now he is totally better (no problem at all in his back, and he is on his feet all day at work).

I had two epidural injections and they worked great for a little while...they aren't permanent (although some people swear by them). Mine relief lasted about 2 weeks from the first one and then about a 1 week on the 2nd and 3rd Good Luck to him I know how painful sciatica can be...I've had it for 6 years! If you have any questions please FM me

Re: Poor FH

I had 2 bulging discs in my lower back. I was in THE worst pain imaginable. There were times when I wasnt able to get out of bed and when I did, I wasnt able to stand up straight. My DR was awesome....he did say that we can try the shots but it would only be a 'quick fix' and the pain would come back again. After sitting with him and thinking long and hard about it, I opted for the Surgery. I feel 10000000000000 times better now!!!
I hope your FH feels better!!! I certainly dont wish that pain on anyone!!
