Re: Popcorn

I saw it last night...theres a wedding announcement in the New York Times and it was about a couple that had just gotten married. She was a Stanford(I'm pretty sure) graduate and he worked for the Department of Sanitation. She posted it like 'Stanford Graduate marries Sanitation worker ' with the article attached. I'm not really sure what her point was but obviously she got torn apart for it haha.

I didn't see the original post not that I know what it was I'm pretty sure if I saw that I'd be annoyed as well.

Same here.. My dad was a Sanitation worker for 30+ years and worked his a$$ off to support our family.

It should not matter where she graduated from and what his job is.. If they are in love who the hell cares

Re: Popcorn

Nahh, I think she deleted it because there was a lot of negative feedback... she didn't really say anything wrong, it was just to be like wow, who would've thought?! type of thing... nothing bad was said though and i think her original message was just reacted to a way she wasn't expecting. no harm no foul. :)

and i love me a man in uniform... regardless of what that uniform is so mmmhmmm

Re: Popcorn

I understand the stigma that might be attached to being a sanitation worker, but.............

I would kill for a job with GREAT benefits, job SECURITY, awesome vacation time, annnnnnnnd seriously decent pay.

Not to mention that it is super hard to get a job with DSNY these days.

Re: Popcorn

just for the record, when my FH & I started going out, there were some people (acquaintances) who were like oh, you have a Bachelor's and he only finished H.S.
that really ruffled my feathers to say the least.
not for nothing, but even with my BA, FH still makes waaaaaaaaaaay more than i do, well into the 6 digits with only his HS diploma.

i think some people are very small minded and don't consider that there are very smart, intelligent, well off people out there, Entrepreneurs, who we all owe a debt of gratitude for, because some of their ideas help us live the way we do today, very comfortably.

Just because someone works for the sanitation dept does not mean they are uneducated. the man in the article did have a degree. he has a stable job and has awesome benefits. he is not uneducated.

when people used to say that to me and my FH he would look away embarrassed and it would break my heart. he always waited for me to say something or see if i would let it slide. more than once, i have told people who were rude enough to say anything at all, that I have and continue to learn new things from FH every day. regardless of my BA.
