dont call me dear thanks and you are never factual just delusional

I'm not even addressing this ad hominem attack. You can't even back up your assertions. If you disagree with my post, come up with facts saying so, but calling me 'Crazy' and 'delusional' does little to bolster your credibility or argument (whatever that may be).

Wow this has escalated quite a bit on my ride home from work! Damn that drama llama!!!!

Ok Now I'm voicing my opinion because it's getting silly for me to NOT say anything.

For the record...My FH didn't go to college and he's one of the most brilliant men I've ever met. (Not to mention good looking. Yes Ladies he has it all brains and beauty. lol) He watches CNN and understands the opinions and where it comes from and I (the onewith the college diploma) look puzzled at the television and change the channel.

So just because someone doesn't go to college doesn't mean that they don't have high levels of intelligence. It's beyond irritating to actually have to justify how smart someone is based on their education. A degree is just a piece of paper stating you sat through classes for a few years and read a few books. You may have worked your *** off for other people's expectations but it doesn't mean you actually apply that knowledge you've acquired.

For instance I have my BA in Psychology and was forced to take a foreign language. So what exactly does learning how to say 'May I use the Bathroom and I brushed my teeth as well as my all time favorite phrase I don't know' In french help my marriage?? I can’t really use it in getting me a real job now can it?

Now Based on the arguments presented; am I to assume if people who are not on the same level intellectually are doomed for a failed marriage because they won't be happy because they won't understand eachother? Because someone should tell my parents who just celebrated their 33rd anniversary on Friday. My dad's got a college degree and my mom just has a high school diploma. Yet they are happily married.

But hey this is just my opinion.

exactly... if people were so horribly matched because of education why did they get married in the first place!?? and why did anything change after marriage???

Also, how are you people defining intelligence? Speaking about the issues intelligently doesn't just mean reading CNN but also understanding where the opinions are coming from and comparing/contrasting the events and opinions to those of other sources. There are other levels of intelligence as well besides just being socially aware of our country through public media - there's also awareness of how our universe was created, what 'Pi' really means, and what the world consider great literature..

It is a question of being exposed to all these elements that academia gives you and being in the real world does not. Its painfully clear to me when I talk to my dad on a daily basis.

_______________________________________

Being exposed to certain 'academia' does not necessarily make an intelligent person...nor does making lengthy condescending posts (being verbose I think you would call it) to try to prove you are intelligent. Now I am a teacher and highly value the importance of education, but you are wrong when you discount real world experiences. Day in and day out I try to teach my students that being book smart does not make a well-rounded individual...but rather how you relate to those around you, the compassion in which you do, and what you do every second of every day with those intelligences.

But I can't say it better than this speech here...

The only thing I would slightly agree on is the economic stand point. but as far as education I completely disagree. I mean man I go to law school and I know some of the most unintellectual people in the world. I think the whole 'CNN' aspect all has to do with... Interests. some people, no matter their educational background, are either REALLY interested in politics or other 'intellectual' topics and others are just not!! its as simple as that. A degree does NOT teach anyone about politics, the US supreme court, etc. You have to learn to be interested in these areas on your own!!!

Rita my dear,

Holding an unpopular opinion does not make me crazy. It just makes me different.

Also, nowhere in my post did I advocate the original post or what she meant to imply. My original post simply pointed out what challenges are presented when a couple of economic, racial and educational disparities face when they marry.
