Popping the Question

So...I was cleaning up our bedroom today getting ready for the new bedroom suite we are buying and I came across the shirt DH made for me when he proposed. Everytime I think about it I smile...and it brought back such great memories . DH handmade a t-shirt that said 'Will You Marry Me?' on the front...and 'Please Say YES' (with little puppy dog eyes on the back). It was THE cutest thing ever. He got down on one knee and was shaking SO bad....he was absolutly adorable We were together almost 9 years before he proposed (HS sweethearts), so it was well overdue and just perfect!

I know all you ladies have GREAT proposal stories and/or pictures....tell me...how did FH/DH ask you? How long were you together before he asked??

Re: Popping the Question

Great question!! That t-shirt idea was so cute!!

FH and I went to Mexico for vacation and it started out as a pretty disastrous trip-- we decided to rent a car and drove from Cancun Airport to Riviera Maya, got lost, drove in circles for 3 hours and got pulled over for speeding!! We were exhausted that night so we went to dinner and passed out.

The following day we hung out by the pool and beach, and he wanted to take a walk after we got back from dinner. He packed up a duffel bag with glasses and a bottle of champagne with his ipod and mini speakers and off we went. He was trying to position us to sit on the beach to watch the sunset, but the sun sets on the other side of the peninsula so we couldn't see it from our beach but we sat on the beach bed anyway and looked out to the ocean. FH poured the champagne and put my favorite song ('If You're Gone' by Matchbox 20) on his ipod. He then asked me what I thought the song meant so I told him, and then he told me that he thought it meant that they were singing about someone that they never wanted to live without. As I turned to him, he pulled out a box and said 'that's how I feel about you' I started to cry like a baby as he was putting the ring on me, and all of a sudden he said 'well?' so I said 'well what, you haven't asked me anything!!' He asked me if he actually had to ask me the question and I said, 'uh, yeah you do!!' so he asked and I obviously said yes :)

That had to be about the only really romantic thing he's ever done and I will never forget it!!

Re: Popping the Question

We got engaged at the Majestic Colonial Resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. It was perfect.... but of course things didn't go as Vinny planned. I thought Vinny was going to propose b/c we had talked about it over the years but I was still not 100% sure. He would say things that would make me think he had the ring then say things that made me doubt him. Plus, how would he get it past airline security? Where would he keep it? I mean, I packed his clothes for the trip.....

At this hotel there are photographers walking around taking pictures of you w/ monkeys, parrots, etc. that you can purchase & bring home with you. We took some shots at the pool on Saturday & they tried talking us into doing a sunset photoshoot on the beach the next day. I was all for it because I figured that if we were going to get engaged on the beach then we would have great pictures of the wonderful moment. Vinny was behind me trying to get the attention of the girl to say no because he wanted to propose & didn't want an audience of flashbulbs & awkwardness. But of course I persisted & set up the shoot for Sunday night.

Sunday morning comes around & we were debating whether or not to cancel the shoot (I still had no idea). We had ordered breakfast from room service & Vinny was laying on the couch. I had just closed the door after it was delivered & when I turned around Vinny was all of a sudden behind me & said 'I have something for you, something you've wanted for a long time.' He took the ring from his computer bag & got on one knee & asked me to marry him!! I was shocked, how did he get up so fast? Of course i said 'Yes' & then I proceeded to drop the ring on the floor (I'm such a clutz)...The ring is BEAUTIFUL & SO ME!! Vinny did a great job w/ the help of Nicole & Angelo...The ring is 2.1 carats w/ a brilliant cut round center stone w/ 2 accent stones in a pave' setting of white gold. The entire inner & outer bands are encased with smaller round diamonds. There is a total of 105 (YES, 105) diamonds all together!!!! It is so different... I love it & especially my fiance'. We then spent the next 2 hours calling our friends & family to tell them the news..... We never did get to eat our breakfast but it was worth it. It was so much better being alone in our hotel room than having strangers surround us on the beach. It is a memory that will last a lifetime. It was absolutely perfect !!!!!!

P.S. We finally did cancel the photoshoot :)

P.S.S. Vinny hid the ring in his wallet right behind my picture as we went through aiport security. And to think I had moved his wallet so many times in and out of the hotel safe and had no idea....Like I said, it was absolutely perfect <3

*sorry so long, I copied it from our webpage, too long to rewrite

Re: Popping the Question

We have been dating a year and a half when he proposed and we were living together for 4 months...

I was in grad school and I came home around 9...I have been texting FH all day what a stressful day I was having so when I came home he had 2 of my favorite bottles of wine. I didn't think anything of it because FH is like that and it is something he would do normally...He says to me ' I bought you a present...but I hid it in the apt'

So I am looking around and then I saw the bedroom door was closed so I opened it and it was like HEAVEN ! He had roses ALL over, pedals on the bed, candles, balloons, edible arrangements, chocolate covered strawberries and on the floor in mini heart t-light candles he spelled out WILL YOU MARRY ME

I was soooo shocked ! I knew we were going to get engaged since we moved in together and everything but i had no idea it was going to be that day or near then !!!!!

It was amazing !!! Poor FH though, I stood there for like 5 min just staring at WILL YOU MARRY ME like i couldn;t believe it and he is behind me on his knee waiting for me to turn around !

My avatar is the engagement!!!

Ohhhh I am so happy rightn ow thinking about it ! GREAT POST!

Re: Popping the Question

DH proposed on St. Patrick's Day 08.

For our first Christmas together, he made me a scrapbook with pics of our first date, first vacation together, etc. We've added pages on to it since then. In early March he borrowed the book to 'show someone at work who was getting married.' (He was lying. )

On St. Patty's Day he came over with a full dinner (corned beef, potatoes, etc) and after we ate he had me look through the scrapbook again... he had added a new page at the end and tied the ring inside.

Re: Popping the Question

OMG . okay my story is kind of long. ..

but if you're bored . read on!!

we were going away for the wknd to the north fork to go wine tasting and stay at a B&B. . I kind of thought it might be proposal wknd but FH (at the time) told me there were three things he still needed to do before we got engaged so. . .

We stop at a winery for a picnic lunch. . we had brought food and then got wine there. . DH goes out to the car and comes back with a jewelry box and I open it and it's diamond earrings. . he says I wanted to be the first man to buy you diamonds. .

after lunch we head on to the B&B and he seems to be really worried about time so i am suspicious but don't know what it is. .then when we check in he has a massage waiting for me!!! so during the massage I am enjoying it but keep thinking that it has to be this wknd bc why would he be doing this. . but still. .

so after the massage we are getting ready for dinner and I am trying on necklaces to go with this dress he bought me and I say 'do you like this one, or this one?' and I hold up necklaces. he says 'show me again' so i do and then he comes up behind me as i am looking in the mirror and says 'How about this one?' and puts a diamond necklace on me that was the diamond from he grandmother's engagment ring! I almost started to cry then.. .

then we went out to dinner at this really nice place and have wine etc and I am STILL just trying to enjoy just in case i am wrong but CMON!!! so we go for a walk at sunset and are down on this pier and it's like all the people magically dissapear. and then finally he asks me to marry him!

and the next morning he said he had one more thing and it was a brides magazine!

Re: Popping the Question

Sorry for it being so long.

My fiancee and I make plans but don't usually follow through with them. For the longest time we were saying how we should go to the Metropolitan Museum on the weekend. We live so close to the city but never really take advantage of it. But like I said everytime we were going to go we'd change our minds.

One Saturday in March we were planning on going to the Met to see the new Egyptian exhibit (my fiancee loves that time period). However it was getting close to Saturday and we hadn't talked about going anymore so i figured this was going to be another time we just didn't go. I decided to book an appointment for our dog to get groomed that Saturday instead. I told my fiancee that Friday i had made the appointment. When he found out he kept saying how he really wanted to go see Egyptian exhibit and did everything he could to change the appointment to that night. He basically told me later how he begged the groomer to switch it explaining how he was planning on proposing. The groomer was awesome and even stayed open late grooming our pup.

Saturday comes, we drop off the dog at my parents and hop on the subway. Normally the subway is a 10 min ride to the museum, not this Saturday. There was something wrong with tracks that day and it took over an hour just for the train to get to our station. At that point I suggest just going home, we can always go next weekend. My fiancee says how he really wants to see the exhibit, so we decided to still go.

We finally get to the Met and it's crowded. My fiancee hates crowds so I was not looking forward to this experience. We check our coats and go off to the Egyptian exhibit. Now for those of you who haven't been to the Met they have a huge Egyptian exhibit. It can easily take you the whole day just looking at everything in there. Not to lie to you we were in and out of there in 10 minutes tops. I'm thinking what the heck! He kept saying how we came here to see the Egyptian exhibit and he barely looks at it. After the exhibit he says we should go find the Toulouse Lautrec paintings. Toulouse Lautrec is my favorite painter and I've seen his paintings at the Met enough to know exactly where they are. So we make our way upstairs to the paintings. I'm still kinda shocked with how quick we spent in the last exhibit.

The great thing about where the Toulouse Latrec paintings are is that they have a small gallery room that is off to the side so it's never really crowded. When we get to there I kind of run ahead to look and are so engrossed with looking at the paintings I kind of block out other things around me. So we get to this painting of his called the Englishman and I start looking at it. I turn around to get his opinion about the painting and he's on one knee holding a ring. I'm completely shocked like a deer in headlights. He's asking me to marry him and apparently I didn't even let him finish the question before saying yes (I don't believe that's the case). After it sunk in I started crying and couldn't stop looking at my ring. When we left I called everyone and went back to my parents to celebrate. My brother and sister in law were there when we got there and it was perfect. We also got a copy of the painting he proposed in front of and it's hanging in our living room.

Re: Popping the Question

DH & I met in elementary school, were best friends thru high school, and started dating in college. So after 7 years, he proposed to me on Valentine's Day while we were on a cruise.

He had our room attendant make 2 swans kissing out of those towel animals, and my ring was in between. My surprise was waiting for me after I came back from being pampered at the salon. Even though I had an idea it was coming, it was soooo romantic. We went to the Supper Club that night for a special dinner..it really was the perfect night

Re: Popping the Question

FH and I got in a really big fight one night.. basically because I was PMSing. The next day at work I kept texting him that I felt bad we fought last night etc. When I got home from work there were 6 dozen roses all over the place and FH had cooked dinner and dressed up. Needless to say I apologized for being a beotch and we made up. I didn't think anything of it because I figured he was just apologizing also for the fight. We took a walk to the beach and came back and I was just lounging on the couch and out of nowhere he came to me and said something along the lines that even when we fight he still wants to be with me and then he got down on his knee and asked me. And I screamed. Jumped on furniture. Ran around the house like a psycho.

He told me after he had planned to ask me that day for a few weeks.. he had ordered all the flowers and was scared I was going to say no bc of the fight.

Re: Popping the Question

Sorry in advance...I know this going to be long!

FH proposed at Atlantis Marine World in Riverhead. I LOVE penguins so I thought we were just going so I could see them. They day we picked to go it was so hot. We went with FH's sister, BIL and their 3 month old daughter. I never suspected that it was happening that day because I thought when he did do it we would be alone.

As soon as we get into the inside part FBIL says 'Oh I forgot my phone in the car and I'm waiting for an important call I gotta go get it' and he goes back to the parking lot. The rest of us are wandering around the inside area and FH says 'Let's go outside' I say 'Wait for FBIL.' FH says 'No he'll find us let's go.' I gave him a look like you're being an a$$ but we all went outside anyway. So eventually FBIL finds us and we make our way over to the penguin exhibit. We sit down to watch the show that's starting in a few min. but it's so hot and I felt bad for the baby so I suggest to FH that we skip the show and go back inside where it's cool for the baby. He says 'No I want to watch the show!' FH being so rude and not caring about everyone else it totally out of character so I was like 'You're in a mood today huh?' I turn away from him and watch the show that has just started. Like half way through another worker comes and interrupts the girl talking about penguins. She says 'I just got a call from someone in the audience whose girlfriend is a huge penguin lover.' FH turns to me and goes 'Hey that's you!' They call me up in front of everyone and the girl starts asking me all these questions..'Do you have penguin stiffed animals, what about statues?' Then she points to a girl holding a rolled up poster and says 'Do you have anything like this?' It a huge sign that says 'Christina, will you marry me?' I turn back to where FH was sitting in the audience only at this point he is right in front of me down on one knee, ring box open. During the show the lady had mentioned that penguins mate for life so FH says 'Will you be my penguin?' I started crying like crazy and said yes of course!

Turns out when FBIL let he went to get the sign from his car and to give it to th people who worked there. Apparently our engagement was all the workers could talk about all morning and one lady told me that no one was getting any work done cause they were all trying to sneak a peak at us! Not only did FH plan the whole proposal but he also talked the Atlantis in allowing me and him inside the penguin exhibit...I actually got to play with them, which has been a dream of mine since the first time I went to an aquarium at 3 years old and tried to climb in!

The best thing is FSIL got it all on tape so we now have a dvd of our engagement that I can watch whenever I want!
