I'm sorry and I dont want to make waves but I think that that is crazy! People have some nerve! They really do not care about inconveniences others.
I agree with Mich, if you do go I would also make sure to bring something easy & economical.

I didn't mean it that way . . . you didn't . . . just I don't want people to get offended by my opinion of the whole thing. You never know what will offend someone.

got that right! its pretty freakin rediculous these days i think everyone is just a bit 'on edge' and trying waaaay too hard to not step on toes and imo, i feel the boards are not allowing people to express themselves anymore
and this is in no way a drama starter thread so dont worry.... i dont get the whole pot luck thing and would actually be kinda upset if i was invited to one... normally, showers arent anything to write home about and to me, this would make it 10x worse
ETA: I DONT cook so id spend even more money buying a dish of something...

Yea . . . I would be upset too if I was inviting to this kind of party. Maybe this thread will help brides like us to NOT have this kind of party - especially if a lot of people agree that they do not like it.

I'm going to agree with everyone else so far in that I don't agree w/ this at all---Respond early and bring an Entenmann's Cake put it in a baking pan and say you spent all day making it.

Re: pot-luck shower?
it's this whole recipe theme. we're supposed to make our 'favorite dish' and write the recipe on this card they sent us to make a whole file. it says on the invitation that i can bring wine if i don't want to make something.

Give them a $10 gift card to a restaurant tell them your fav dish is to eat out.

Re: pot-luck shower?
Easy but impressive recipe - Death by Chocolate - get one of those footed bowl things... layer Entemann's Marble Pound, cool whip, pudding and toffee bits... looks amazing and tastes great - takes three minutes... no cooking if you buy Cozy Shack Pudding

Re: pot-luck shower?
the only thing tackier than that was we were invited to a 'FEE-SHOWER' where instead of gifts we were told to bring $$.. yes you read right... TO BRING $$ NO GIFTS!

Re: pot-luck shower?
I posted a thread on this a while back. I just went to a PotLuck baby shower last Sunday. And boy, it was tacky. I don't get it. If you throw a shower- NEVER ask for people to bring food. It's such bad taste. Oh. The best part was- they said in the invite that there would be a 50/50 for the baby's college fund. Give me a fricken break! So we went to the shower. FMIL made sausages and peppers. They announced the 50/50, we didn't put sh*t in!

Re: pot-luck shower?
Maybe it's because the bridal party can't afford to give a shower? These things can get kind of expensive.
I feel kind of bad for my bridal party because a lot of times the bride's mother pays (or contributes a lot towards it). My mother passed and I don't have any sisters so it kind of stinks for my bridal party.
