Re: Pre-cana
My FH and I were surprised. We didn't think it was that bad. Our last night of pre cana was like a little mass and then we talk to all the couples about our plans. Hang in there.

Last week when we talked about having children, when it was our turn to answer we said 1. The next couple said 4 and then proceeded to tell us all how having one child, they felt, was wrong...I was soo embarrassed and ashamed. There was no need for her to say that..the question was only 'how many kids do we want'. Not why do you not want to haveone kid!

It wasn't bad until this snobby chick felt it necessary to inform us of her opinions
Now i want to punch her ion the face

Re: Pre-cana
FH's brother and new wife just went through the same thing like a month ago. They didn't even go to the last one. It was a mass and they ditched it.
She hated it so much...she said it was no way for them to teach you anything...they were just embarassing!!!

Sorry that girl made you feel bad, but don't let it get to you. You have your OWN reasons and it's no one else's place to tell you you are right or wrong....don't let her ignorance make ya feel bad. Good luck tonight! ~Denise

Re: Pre-cana
We're just doing Saturday Pre-cana where it's 9-5 one day. I can't imagine doing weekly one. Please, let someone tell me I should have so much children. Do these people who say have all the kids you can expect me to go on welfare?

Re: Pre-cana
I could go on and on about this....my FH has 12 brothers and sisters and that is what FMIL and FFIL want us to do!!!
When they come into my job every morning, come and put my kid to bed every night and pay my bills....we'll discuss the possibility of that many children...until then....it is whatever we decide, not the church, not the IL's either!!

Re: Pre-cana
UGH- our pre-cana was TORTURE!!!!!!!!! It was the DRC one for the full weekend in Feb. and it was the longest weekend of our life. Here is why we were MISERABLE: The people who ran it READ EVERYTHING off of sheets of paper. They didn't look up as they spoke- I was like: Just print the friggin' speach out and hand it out! Don't lecture us by READING it off of a sheet! It was so frustrating. They also brought in a few speakers. The guy who spoke about communications was good. The other ones were so painstaikingly boring and had no idea how to speak publicly. They all had nervous laughs and kept doing things like 'Ummmm and Ok' every 2 seconds. It was just terrible. We all just sat there counting down the hours. I fell asleep a few times and so did many of the other people there.
I'm so jealous of everyone else who had a good experience. I really and truly was looking forward to getting something out of this- besides FRUSTRATION!

Re: Pre-cana
I had such a good experience that the host couples told us that hope that maybe in a few years we will come back and host with them Both couples have been hosting together for 22 years and they really know their stuff. They were so nice and funny. I still see them in church and I hope to keep in touch with them. I see one of the husband's on the train occassionally and he is just so nice.
Sorry to those of you with bad experiences.

Re: Pre-cana
my FH is from out-of-town, so we did an 'engaged encounter' weekend pre-cana, which was a retreat. we really loved it, it was kind of intense but definitely brought us closer. i would recommend the weekend retreat, it is through the diocese, but your church should be able to give you more info.

Re: Pre-cana
We just finished our 3 sessions of pre-cana. I honestly didn't want it to end. It was very private (6 engaged couples total), and in the head couple's home...it was very non-intrusive. We did a lot of worksheets, but we never had to share anything. The best part was chatting with the other couples about issues/wedding plans...it's nice to know you're not alone! Also, on the last day we said our vows. It was really intense! I thought it was going to be silly, but standing there - in front of only 12 other people - was crazy.
I LOVED pre-cana and can't say enough about it. It was definitely NOT what we expected, and there was little to no talk about religion and related issues...it was mostly chatting about what it's like to be married, and what issues to expect, how to communicate, etc.
Enjoy :)

I'm sorry some of you are having/or had such bad experiences. We did our pre-cana at St. Lukes in Whitestone and had a good experience. The host couple were very informative and entertaining. They made the day go by fast.

Re: Pre-cana
I have to say I am completely surprised- Greg and I loved Pre Cana. No one was intrusive or pushy, everyone who spoke was so genuine, and I really felt that I could call any of them even years from now, and they would be helpful. In fact, the night before, we found out that Greg was laid off, and I was really upset, but the weekend really helped us put everything in perspective. We spent Sat and Sun at Kellenberg, and I highly recommend it. The point that we got out of it was that the Church wanted us to have a strong marriage, and how to handle the inevitable problems. I hope everyone else can have as great an experience as we did.
