Does anyone know how this works - does it have to take place with the Church you will be getting married in? (I'll be living in NC and the Church is in NY) Also I've heard about the 'weekend' or monthly meetings - what have you done (if you have!)?
One more....does it matter if you both are not the same religion...I'm Catholic and he is Lutheran...
Thanks

Re: Pre-Cana?
It usu takes place in the church that you're getting married in. It dosen't matter if your are 2 diff religions (my moh is Catholic, FH is lutheran). You need to speak to the priest to see what they can arrange. I think its for 6 weeks 2x or 1x per week, but it differs from parish to parish

I'm the MOH and yes, you CAN get married in the church and have a full nuptial mass if you wish with a Lutheran. Pre-cana takes place in all catholic churches but you have to ask the church you're marrying at if you can do the pre-cana in your state. You recieve a certificate after it's completed that you hand to the church, but deifnatly call the church first and ask them and tell them which church youre going to.
Pre-cana does take place over 6 weeks, 1x per week for 2 hours each night. I have heard of the weekend ones or the 1 session ones, but dont know much about them... good luck

Good luck to you too!
So does the FH and all other non-Catholics just abstain from receiving Communion? I wonder how he'll know what to do....but I guess they cover that in the pre-cana!
I'm off to school now ... hope prof. lets us out early! I want to watch Grey's....

It does matter that he is Lutheran, but not in any major way. The priest will have you fill out what is called a dispensation. It's basically a form that the priest and you fill out saying that a Catholic is marrying a non-Catholic and you want your marriage recognized by the Church. Also, you both have to attend Pre-Cana. Ask about the dispensation paperwork when you meet with the priest.

I didn't realize that pre-cana was that long either. I guess they want to make sure that the two of you are really serious about marriage.

Pre-Cana is not that long... it's only 8 hours... some parishes have you come for 4 evenings for 2 hours, some do one all-day event. it's worth. FH and I actually enjoyed it. it gets you thinking and talking about the important issues you will face in a marriage.
