Re: Pre Cana..Good or Bad???
Not great but not awful....2 sessions at the church (one for FOCCUS and one to go over results) 3 two hour sessions at a couples house, then a closing at a mass followed by a brunch - for some reason ours was the longest of anyone I have heard.

Re: Pre Cana..Good or Bad???
Sorry to butt in but here is my experience...
I really enjoyed Pre Cane...you learn A LOT about each other..HOWEVER....I went to the 4 week program and week 3 gets WEIRD where they start telling you that the catholic Church does not believe in condoms and all about Natural child birth planning......
I am an Irish Catholic but i had so many issues with day 3 of Pre Cana....it really bothered me.
Other then that Pre Cana is really an eye opening experience.

Like 30 couples in the basement of the church.. married couples presented different topics to us and we had worksheets to fill out alone and share with each other.

I heard about this too. Did they openly ask you questions about views on natural child birth and birth control etc.? or did they just speak about it?
Thanks!

Re: Pre Cana..Good or Bad???
Actually, our first class was good. I had some problems with the Foccus questions but the meetings with the host couple was fine.

They just talk about it. I just could not believe they were advocating to not use any type of birth control and do the calendar method to avoid pregnancy. It was just so old way of thinking so I thought it was useless.

Re: Pre Cana..Good or Bad???
good, our last session is next Thursday. We did in home with three other couples. I loved the openess of everyone, including us, sharing their experience. In fact, last night was about religion, but it wasn't boring like it was in grade school.

Re: Pre Cana..Good or Bad???
We finished ours over the summer. We had a total of 6 sessions....the first and last were a mass followed by a meeting w/ one of the priests. Then the 4 in between were with a couple who hosted us at their house for about an hour each time. They were an amazing couple and we really enjoyed it. We didn't learn anything about each other that we didn't already know.
Overall a positive experience. There was no talk of what the Catholic church expects you to do. It was mostly how to communicate with each other.

Of course the church advocates NFP, the church teaches that there are moral and immoral ways to space and plan a family. NFP gets blasted because it is misunderstood as the old 'rhythm method' and because it requires sacrifice! I don't think anyone expects it to be easy, but I believe working together like that does truly strengthen a marriage.
NFP is very effective IF you follow the rules. Unfortunately, many couples get in the heat of the moment, break the rules, and then blame NFP (rather than their own weakness) for a surprise pregnancy.

I agree...not that I oppose birth control bc Im very much behind it, but my own personal preference is the NFP...I use the calendar method and so far so good!

It was really good. We did ours 1 night a week over a period of 4 weeks. The couple was real and down to earth . . .no preaching. I really enjoyed it.

We are doing in right now. And I have to say I am enjoying it. The couples hosting are great and so are the other couples getting married. It brings up some things you never really think of discussing. Our next session is on sexuality. Yeah that should be interesting and um weird!
