Are you girls getting one? Have one? FH brought this up and says we need one and now things are tense between us. He brought this up in the past but hasnt mentioned it in so long so I kinda forgot about it. So annoying! Who does he think he is - Trump? What's your opinion?

I have no problem with them...I actually think they are a great idea. I'm sure I am in the minority with this one though.

It never crosses our minds... so obviously we're not doing one...
any thing I was worth before hand has just been blown on our house and wedding so we really have no reason for one anyways

We aren't having one...but we don't believe in divorce so its kind of a moot point.

Wow I can understand how things would be tense. It's never come up with us and I don't think it will. But then again neither of us have much to our names!

That is a tough one, depends on what it says in it. If you do choose to go ahead with one make sure you get your own lawyer so that you are protected too . HTH

Thats the thing... FH has a lot more than I do - money and property - so I guess he wants to protect that. I also think his dad is pushing it.

we talked about it and then asked my mom (an attorney). she said 'neither of you have a pot to pi$$ in, so you dont need one' gotta love the moms anyway, if you or your FH owns property or a business, it is a good idea to get one. maybe after some research, it wont seem so bad after all. do u mind if i ask why you are hesitant to get one?

I think I just keep imagining ten years and three kids later and FH coming home and saying he is in love with some 18 year old and telling me to move out. He says thats crazy and would never happen but my sister went through a similar situation and I dont wanna end up like her. I dont wanna be that clueless woman.

If in the end, you do know your marriage will last, (which obviously you do otherwise you wouldn't be getting married) then you will never need to act on the terms of the document anyway.
I can understand it being tense and not really wanting to sign one. And I agree with a PP that you should have your own lawyer look it over before you sign.

We aren't getting one, actually it never even crossed our minds. We see it as whats mine is yours. I could totally see why you would be upset about it though. but maybe he is just getting more pressure from his parents for it.

you have to have your own attorney in order for the prenup to be valid.

cant that be stipulated in the prenup? i dont know anything about them, but i imagine you can put whatever you want in them. like if he ends up with an 18 year old, you get half of that property owned before you married or whatever. its definitley a tricky issue but you might be able to use it to your advantage as well.

Yes he is getting pressure from his dad because somethings are in both of their names.

We discussed it today and FH agreed that something could be added to protect me against a situation like that but I still worry.

Re: Pre-nups
FH and I talked about it not because either of us has anything (he has more than i do, but so do most people at this point), but he brought up the point that money issues do tend to break people up at a certain point. I know that was a major factor in my parents' divorce (even though only ONE will admit that). He thinks that maybe it's easier if money is not a concern and it's already decided how it will be split up IF a couple is to break up. Maybe it will take some of the pressure or the tension off of the break-up and will just be about the relationship... So not necessarily to protect assets, but to protect the relationship afterwards (my parents are definitely not friends and maybe would have been if money were not such a major factor in and during the divorce (and my wedding!))
but I don't think we're doing one....

I can understand why he would want one if this is the case. While FH may know the marriage will last forever, his father isnt in the relationship. I would sit down and come up with an agreement that makes you both comfortable.
