Precana
Has anyone gone yet? I am doing the weekend one @ Kellenberg HS this weekend. What goes on during Precana?

Re: Precana
I was told to call my Church in January to set up the class. I'm wondering the same thing. What goes on? How long are they? Also, is the weekend one on Saturday and Sunday or just one of those days? I start working 6 days a week (M-S) in February for tax season and this schedule wont change will mid- April.

Re: Precana
We did it last Spring. We also did the 3 week class (once a week for 3 weeks we met at one of the instructor's homes)First you start with an online test called FOCCUS that you and your fiance' take seperately... simple questions like have you discussed who will handle the money, have you discussed how many children you both want... things like that.
It sounds like you are doing the weekend class, so it may be a bit different... but after we took the FOCCUS test at home, we met with the group (3 couples that were our instructors & 3 other couples attending Pre Cana) about a week later to go over the 'scores' of the FOCCUS test and to meet every one.
We then met at each instructor couple's houses for the next 3 weeks. Each night there was a topic-Raising your kids Catholic, things like that and you discussed it with every one. They also would give us little projects for each couple to do together.
It was nice because our instructors consisted of one couple who was married for about 17 years with 2 teenaged kids, another couple who was married for about 10 years with 3 little kids and another couple who had been married for about 5 years with 2 babies. So it was nice to hear their experiences and advice, etc.
At the end of the 3 weeks we had a mass where we were all brought up to the altar and recognized by the church in front of every one & given certificates of completion.
If you have the time and work schedule to do the weekly class, I'd highly recommend doing it that way. A lot of people say it's just not the same when they do the weekend class.
Hope that helps!

Because of your work schedule, I'm sure they can place you in a late Spring/Summer class instead. Just mention your work schedule to them when you speak to the church this month. They will work around you & make sure you get it done at your convenience.

Re: Precana
Our church needed everything to be done within 6 months, so we are going next weekend. It's a Friday night and all day Saturday.

Precana
2014er crashing!I did the Precana weekend at Kellenberg in December (early, I know). They had speakers talk about a range of topics. The focus was on real issues that you'll face in marriage (i.e., it's ok to argue if you do it the right way). They also had a speaker about a few other topics over the 2 days like natural family planning & starting a family and the things associated with that, etc. We also went over the results of the FOCCUS survey and did a few activities in a workbook they gave us when we got there. I honestly enjoyed it. It gave FH and I a time to talk about things and just have some time to think about our marriage instead of our wedding. They also served us breakfast and lunch :)

Re: Precana
This might be a stupid question but do you have to discuss topics out loud with everyone in the group/class? I've always been afraid of public speaking. I'm dreading taking this class.

We only HAD to speak out loud when introducing ourselves to the group & IF we had something to add to the discussion. I'm not sure how the weekend Pre Canas go though as there are usually more people who attend those & they aren't as 'intimate' in getting to know every one. Honestly, don't dread the class. It's one of those things that you get back what you put in. I originally was dreading it, but my fiance' & I actually really enjoyed it and learned a lot from it. Go in with an open mind, you'll be fine!

Precana
We were hoping to do a precana that is designed for couples in their 30s and 40s, but found that the only one offered this year is in the Bronx and too far for us. We will probably do a long weekend. My FH was raised Catholic, but does not follow the religion any longer although I do. I told him he better behave!

Precana
We Precana for 4 few weeks on a Friday night. The couples were really nice and did not keep us there forever. We were asked to share and add to discussions on the topics presented while the couples gave their advice and told us stories about their lives/relationship. The couples did not judge at all and were there for support. The whole thing was def not as bad as some people make it out to be!

Re: Precana
We did our pre-cana in September. The whole point is to learn more about your future spouse and to reiterate the important aspects of marriage, and what is expected of each partner in our roles as husband and wife. It's pretty much just listening to other couples speak about how their marriage has been and how religion is important in their marriage. Between listening to speakers, my fiance and I had to fill out new questionnaires and then read our responses to one another. It was really nice.
At the end, all of the couples went to 5pm mass and a special blessing was said over us.
