Just wondering which brands everyone is taking, and if they turn your urine neon yellow...?

Prenate. And, no, I haven't had glow-in-the dark urine yet! They haven't turned anything but my stomach!

Re: Prenatal Vitamins
I take an over the counter brand-nature's bounty I think. All vitamins make your urine more yellow. I cannot stress enough that this is sign that you should be drinking more fluids (water, water, water). That's what I keep hearing so far in my pregnancy. Many women go into preterm labor and it's b/c they are dehydrated. Other benefits of water during pregnancy: give you enery, keep your muscles relaxed and prevent swelling. I know that wasnt' your question, but from what I can tell it will really help.

Re: Prenatal Vitamins
Thanks for the info Nina, but it says on the bottle that it will discolor my urine. I just didn't expect it to be such a wild color! If I fill a jar with it, I could probably use it as a night light or mining lamp.
Kathi, I'm sorry that yours are bothering your stomach. Does it help if you take them with food??

Re: Prenatal Vitamins
I take Prenate. Not pg, my doctor wanted me to start taking them even if we would only be thinking of TTC in the near future. She said they were that important.
I was taking a multi vitamin, (I think its GNC Womans Ultra Mega) when she prescribed Prenate and she said I could continue taking that instead if I wanted, but I thought the Pre-natal vitamins would be some sort of super pill because it was prescription. Well I get home and compare the info on the bottle and my regular multi had alot more of all the ingredients! I was going to call to ask about this, but figured I guess sometimes less is more?
Also - She warned me, but the Prenate didn't change my urine at all. However my reg multi did, bright neon yellow!

Re: Prenatal Vitamins
Another thing worth asking about...
When I filled my prescription, the pharmacist was soooo nice. He actually told me that it would cost more money for me to get the pills through insurance, because my insurance only lets you fill month to month. I bought a 3 month supply direct and it came out to less money than I would have laid out with co-payments and the increased price for the 30 days pills as opposed to bulk.
I wish I could remember the actual math. I hope this makes sense..... ask your pharmacist.

Re: Prenatal Vitamins
LisaW, I'm also taking Duet, and they don't bother my stomach at all. Could you possibly switch to another vitamin?? There are so many out there, maybe something else would be better for you.
Tammy, My RE had me taking a multi vitamin, as well as additional B6 B12 and Folic Acid. Every doctor has a different philosophy. If you trust your doctor, do what she suggests. I'm sure she won't steer you wrong.

tammy:
It depends on your doctor. My doctor told me as long as I was taking a mulit-vitamin I didn't need the pre-natals. She said save my money for now. As long as it has the 400mcg of Folic Acid -- that's the important part.
So I would go with what you doctor tells you.

Re: Prenatal Vitamins
Jenn-LMAO about the nightlight !! LOLLLLL. So you CAN pee in the dark at night !!
Kathi-Im sure you can switch without a problem.
My Dr had given me several samples and told me to chose one that I preferred. I chose PreNate (because it was purple, LOL) then, I started hating it, the big bulky size was making me gag. So I switched To StuartNatal. They are very petite and easier to swallow. (and they have a heart on them !! ). There are also chewables if anyone prefers that. I didnt like the chewables. Left the taste in my teeth, even if I brushed.
I tried em all !

Re: Prenatal Vitamins
Did anyone ever take Primacare?? I still have it in my cabinet, but it made me SOO, sick for 2 days straight. I woke up in the middle of the night with severe stomach pains and then vomitted and that continued the next day. That NEVER happens to me. This was before I was pg, then I switched to OTC ones. I started taking prenatals as soon as we started TTC. I usually take them at night after dinner and they don't bother me. The few times that I did take them in the morning, I did feel a little sick.

Tammy, not that I know of. But, you can be sure to gain weight when you're pg!! There's no getting out of that one! I have 3 months to go and I'm only supposed to gain 2 more pounds!
