Prenatals and ... constipation??

I have been taking the prenatals that my doctor prescribed but OH BOY am I constipated lately!!! (SORRY TMI) Could this be the cause, or is it coincidence?

Any women have that trouble?

Are you TTC right now? I found that constipation was one of the first signs of my being pregnant.

I didn't have that problem when I took prenatals before I was pregnant- but I know some women have. You can try to take colace - it will help - or tell your dr. you want to be on something else!

The iron content in the prenatal may be too much for you.

Have the Dr give you a RX for Colace. It will help.

or switch your PN to citrical (w/ stool softener). i have been taking them since monday and no problems. i spoke w/ people that are TTC and preggo and they haven't had problems either.

I have been taking prenatals for awhile now and had no problems....until I got pregnant You can get colace in any drug store....Also try to drink more water and have more fiber in your diet

my poor sister is going through this right now. Shes pregant and she is extremely constipated. I think its the iron inthe pills. She has to take a stool softener.

I've been there! It's awful! My midwife put me on iron pills in addition to my prenatals and it ended up becoming a big problem for me.
Like someone else said, try to get the prenatals w/ stool softener.

Constipation was a MAJOR problem for when I was pregnant! It was horrible! I had to take my prenatals every other day and take 3 colaces a day. Try your best to stay on top of constipation, it can cause hemmorrids. Sorry if that is tooooo much info, but I wouldn't want anyone to suffer.

I had heard this can happen, but had the opposite, the pre natals made me run to the bathroom, nothing agreed with me. I am on Flintstones, and a supplemental of folic acid. This is the only thing agreeing with me.

Just wanted to say Thank you to everyone sharing there not so proud moments when expecting or ttc. I know Ive been taking pre-natal vitamins for awhile now and they do bother my stomach but no constipation yet.

Ahhhh...it all makes sense now!

I'm not TTC, but I just started taking a multi-vitamin with iron last week and I've felt very constipated for the past few days...I wonder if that's the cause!

These boards are great, even if you're not TTC!
