you get what you bring in!! so your other half can't get half of the marital assets if you divorce

Re: prenup??
yeah, i am totally against it! i would be pissed if it got brought up! i actually know someone who was engaged and her FH wanted her to sign a prenup, so she ended up pulling out of the engagement. Now she is actually happily married to someone else! but, i guess it depends on your situation. i understand why certain people do it...like celebrities. it's just not for me.

Re: prenup??
for some people they are necessary...i don't frown on them and do not think they set up a person to fail, and i try to look at them as they are protecting a person from ever losing their material individuality....however...regardless...FH and I are really not coming in with much so we just don't need one to even have the discussion to begin with

it's supposed to be 'smart' and for your own protection...but i just can't see planning for a divorce before we're even married. it's totally depressing.

yeah, we are not coming in with much either, but i guess if you are then the subject is more likely to arise. it really depends on your situation.

Re: prenup??
At first it bothered me. But the reality is that a lot of weddings end in divorce. If he wanted me to sign one I would.... but I don't think either of us would do it. Its a way for him to protect both his and his family's money....I wouldn't want to ever hurt his family. I love them!
That said, I'm also not the type that if we did ever divorce (which, I'd absolutely die! ), I would never go after his assets. So we don't need one.

I'm not against them especially in this day and age. But neither of us have anything. We are starting out so there is no need.

Re: prenup??
I guess i am the odd man out, me and FH talk about prenups. I do not get bent out of shape at all talking about it. Neither does he.
I am looking forward to actually going through the process. getting our lawyers, deciding alot of things ahead of time.
We honestly laugh about it all the time.
But i am definately signing one, but its going to protect both of us.

I know you say you have nothing now...but think about the future.
My parents got married young, had nothing...skip ahead 20 years my mothers parents died, she inherited a 500k house
Boom she ends up gettin divorced and half of HER Inheritence is going to my dad.
You may not have anything now, but one day our elders will not be here, its very sad to say this, and protecting any inheritence i feel is important.
I guess i just saw waht happened to my mom, and 20 years before she had nothing, who knew houses were going to go up so much. I think her parents bought that house for 27k

I live in his house. I have nothing to lose because I don't have anything!
Anything that we will have in our future will be just that, ours...

Re: prenup??
i heard ppl also do it if they have debt and stuff like that before they enter the marriage...that way your other half is not responsible for any debt that was acquired prior to the marriage etc.
we havent really discussed this. i guess my thoughts on this are a little rigid...no pre-nup because it gives you an 'out'
