He really annoys me, I heard there were anti-abortion protestors outside of the White House and he came out and applauded them in their efforts!! UGH, I hate him!!!!

Now, you're just picking a fight. I'm done with this post.

Don't leave - just ignore her. I'd like to read what you have to say...

Maybe he has the 'right' to go out and support them, but it still makes me uncomfortable. He is the President, as such he is the symbol for our country. By walking out and supporting them personally (as George Bush) he gives the impression that he, as the president, supports the pro-life cause. I just dont think that is right. It seems that he has a lot of personal issues (gay marriage, pro life, IRAQ) that he is forcing down the throat of the american people, like he is using his presidency to enforce what he thinks is right, not whats best for the country. JMO.

we could definitely be neighbors

I completely agree!

just a funny tidbit to lighten the mood...

my MIL and DH were talking about the State of the Union address...and she is a HUGE Bush supporter...and she says to him...'bush is so intelligent...he memorized the whole speech'

DH tried to explain the teleprompters...but she just wouldn't hear it...

You're being a real ------- Starhead.

this was completely uncalled for and unnecessary....
This is the kind of thing that turns a good thread about an important issue into 'drama'

'SHE' has a screen name (if not a real name)
GOD that bothers me.
She, she, she...

You're being a real ------- Starhead.

CIMINOK, sorry, didn't mean to offend you, just wanted to point out that I felt it was hypocritical.

that's so funny...even FH who usually doesn't notice these things was like, where is he reading that from?

I think as the President of the USA, it was not appropriate for him to go outside and applaud. We all already know his stance on abortion.

If he is looking for votes from the 'square states' that's fine, but he lost the rest of us (open minded/free choice people) with this behavior.

Oh for Godsakes with the 'drama' accusations...
How come everyone else can say what they want...But I make one comment and everything spins out of control? All I said was it's a free country, he's allowed to do that.
That shouldn't be offensive to anyone and was certainly not called for a sarcastic response.
Enough with everyone playing 'Mom' ...

ETA: My comment could have been followed by...'But he's a public figure and shouldn't be going around expressing personal opinions...'
Or
'And good for him for sticking by what he believes in'
everyone automatically assumes what was intended and gets defensive...

I was only referring to your insinuated name calling....as in:

'You're being a real ------- Starhead'

Considering you've taken to deciding what's offensive and what's not, (ie, That shouldn't be offensive to anyone and was certainly not called for a sarcastic response) then I don't have a problem letting you know that I find what you said to her offensive!

I'm not entertaining the drama.

Back to the topic at hand. Interesting article from NARAL.ORG:

Minnesota Health Department Changes Web Site – Again

It all started this past fall. The Minnesota Health Department pushed their health credentials aside in favor of their political agenda by posting inaccurate information about the (non-existent) link between abortion and breast cancer on their web site. Controversy ensued so they “fixed” their web site by including information which was no more accurate, and actually more misleading. A scandal followed, and internal e-mails revealed that certain health department employees took issue with the misinformation on their website. Now the health department has changed its web site again. Though the confusing rhetoric remains (“…some studies have suggested…increased risk of breast cancer…other studies have suggested there is no increased risk…”) at least a note has been added that the National Cancer Institute finds no link between abortion and breast cancer. Finally, Minnesotans will have access to the truth – if only they can wade through the ideological inaccuracies. The Associated Press has more.

Propaganda really chaps my arse.

Figures, the only way is to lie.

How Pathetic!!!!

ETA: it really bugs me that they would choose to link it to breast cancer, another way to make breast cancer the women's fault. How disquesting!

Actually, this isn't a bold-faced lie - there have been many studies about this. It has to do with the circulating hormones during pregnancy, which can be protective against breast cancer. The thought is that if a woman aborts a pregnancy, she does not have the advantage of those protective circulating hormones, thereby possibly increasing her risk of breast cancer. It has not been conclusively proven either way.

Don't mean to be nit-picky, just wanted to clear that up.

Re: President Bush's latest.

so if i never get pregnant, then I don't get these same advantages too??

so not getting pregnant increases you chnces of getting breast cancer??

wouldn't it be correct to say, pregnancy helpos in reducing breast cancer, not abortions cause brest cancer??

Re: President Bush's latest.

That was actually in Sex In The City last week. The Dr. asks Samantha if she had kids, she said no, and he said that pregnancy can help prevent it, or something like that.

Unfortunately, yes...

Not having children: Women who have had no children or who had their first child after age 30 have a slightly higher breast cancer risk.

It's a lie when they come out and say that abortion leads to breast cancer. Sure studies have been done, but nothing has been proven either way. It's also important to point out that the National Cancer organization has come out and said that their lie was indeed that, a lie.

so abortions don't cause an increase!!!
