Just thought I'd ask for a favor, it may be to personal to ask. I was trying to get an idea what everyone was paying per head for their reception to show/prove my point to FH about the cost. Thanks ladies!!
We're getting married on a Saturday night and the price per head is $70 plus 8.625% sales tax and a 17.7% service fee. All calculated out is comes to $91 a head.

Re: Price Per Head?
Good deal. I'm paying $129 pp + tax & gratuity, which works out to $165, I think. And that's outside of NY/LI, where things are supposed to be cheaper.
Oh well, when you fall in love with a place, you do what you gotta do to make it happen...

That's a great price for a Saturday night! Is it off season? We're paying $63 a head for a Sunday afternoon in June--plus tax and 18% gratiuity, I forget what it comes to--and I think we're getting a good deal!
Can I ask you guys a question, though? The 18% gratuity--who gets that? I was under the impression that we should tip the maitre'd on the day. Our catering manager said at the end of the meeting that we could tip the servers, bartender, etc., as much as we liked on the day, but it's totally optional. Uh, yeah, I think it's optional if they're already getting 18% out of me! Are they? I was a bit flabbergasted by that, but figured I'd ask the knowledgeable people--you guys--later.
I curious about this too..can anyone explain this? We are paying a 20% gratuity..who gets the money?

Re: Price Per Head?
I think that price for a Saturday is very good. Where are you talking about? When I was looking at places, I was flexible with it being a friday or saturday or a sunday if it was a long weekend. I was also flexible with time of year. Places I looked at ranged from $65-$165 a head. I originally wanted my wedding in the beginning of April, but when I heard that the last weekend in March was $15 less a head I went with that! And it is only 3 days before April. So take in to consideration the reputation of this place, the time of year, and extras it includes ie: cake, centerpieces, shrimp, etc. Also take into consideration if you have to scale down on anything by paying more a head. It can be stressful, but also try to make it fun and see as many places as you can if you are unsure. best of luck!! :)
