I honestly don't see a problem with a holiday weekend wedding, FH's cousin is getting married the saturday of labor day weekend and I don't have a problem with it. What is the big deal that someone gives up a 'holiday weekend' for someones wedding. I think they are just being selfish!

I totally agree with mosh424! Selfish is the perfect word!
FH and I are invited to a Labor Day weekend wedding and not once did we think about giving up a 'holiday weekend'. There are many more holiday weekends during the year. A wedding is very special and you are giving them enough time to make alternative plans. I think some people have some nerve asking someone to change their wedding date.

I'm a Memorial Day weekend bride, which is also another big weekend to travel and vacation. I know the most important people will be at my wedding and won't mind when it is.

personally, i am not a fan of holiday weddings during holidays. i have been to a couple and always have to cancel some sort of 'traditional event' that i go to for that holiday. i just dont think its fair to the guests to have them cancel plans and sometimes hotel/airfare is super expensive during those times.

I think you need to do what you want to do! Simple as that.

Yes, holiday weddings are a pain for some people and not for others. However, I feel that if someone truly cares about seeing you be married, they will be there. No matter what wedding date you pick, you'll always have someone say 'it's not good for me.'

You have to go into it knowing that some people won't be there because it's a holiday weekend. However, I think if you give people plenty of notice, it's fine.

IMO.....it's your wedding and you have to be happy, if your family can't suck it up for one year and come to your wedding then you all need to sit down and have a talk. FSIL is being totally unreasonable asking you to change your WEDDING DATE!!!!!!!!! It's insanity and frankly, if that were me, I wouldn't even entertain the idea, after planning for this long, my attitude is this: our wedding is this date at this time and place, hope to see you there, any problems, deal on your own, and that's not being a bridezilla, that's YOU taking charge of YOUR day, FSIL had her day already, don't let her stress you out about yours, good luck!!!!!

I agree with gina! Its YOUR wedding and you need to do what makes you happy..if a vacation is more important then you shouldnt be changing a date for someone that rather be on vacation...and honestly they can leave saturday if they really wanted to....dont stress and do what you want..its YOUR wedding and you only get married once ! Good luck

I completely agree...its YOUR day and you should celebrate it whenever you want to. If they think that a vacation it more important then your wedding that is their issue. Plan your wedding when you want and they can take the vacation Columbus day or something.

I am a labor day bride (Sunday of Labor Day)! I always loved when people have fun holiday weddings-- like 4th of July, Labor Day, Fri. of Thanksgiving! Its a great and fun way to celebrate! Plus people are more relaxed -- off of work! As long as you give advanced warning-- its more than fine!

Thank you everyone for your replies and support! I basically told my sis-in-law that its not a BBQ that I'm inviting them to so I can't just change the date and if they can't make it there's nothing I can do about it but the date stays! Let her go on vacation but my brother better be there, lol!

Re: Problems already!

i was suppose to get married on a labor day weekend but the date was already taken. so then i decided to do the thursday ( thats the thursday A WEEK before labor day weekend)...

at first i was hesitant to do it.. but then after talking to many people (friends, family, strangers) if they love you and care about you, they will definitely be part of your most important day... :)

if they cant make it -- fine, not the end of the world. its UR day, do what you want. u cant please everyone! :) HTH!!

Re: Problems already!

people are going to complain no matter what...we had to go to a wedding on a friday night and guess what alot of people were complaining about it but at the end of the day we were all there...the only people you need to please is yourself and FH..if that is the day you want to have your wedding then that is it.

Re: Problems already!

Honestly, if you send out STDs and let everyone know the date now, which is stil TEN MONTHS in advance, I think that everyone has time to plan to be at your wedding. Plus, if they really want to go away, they still have Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Your wedding in Friday!

I think everyone complaining about it is very selfish. I love that I can get married on a long weekend b/c it gives me more time to be with my family and close friends and truly enjoy the entire wedding weekend.

Whether it is convienent for ppl or not it doesn't matter.. it is your wedding and it is the day you picked and your family above all should accept that and be supportive so no i do not think you should change it. Just accept that some other guests might not come because of the holiday weekend so I would def. send out STD's so people know to save the date.
