So here goes....We're getting married the friday of labor day weekend. I loved the idea of kicking off labor day weekend with a wedding day bash! However, my sister-in-law was not happy about the idea and asked me to change my wedding date because thats the only time her and my brother can go on vaction. Are u kidding me! They must have been talking about it to other family members cause now my little brother is telling me its a bad idea. I think part of the reason I didn't start planning sooner is b/c I really didnt want to deal with the stress. I'm also upset that its my family giving me a hard time, all my friends and co-workers are cool with it...go figure.
What do you girls think? Is anyone else a labor day weekend bride?

I agree with gina! Its YOUR wedding and you need to do what makes you happy..if a vacation is more important then you shouldnt be changing a date for someone that rather be on vacation...and honestly they can leave saturday if they really wanted to....dont stress and do what you want..its YOUR wedding and you only get married once ! Good luck

I had that issue with my best friend, she said that people would not want to come because of the holiday and its their last vacation...My reply to all those people with comments...Its my wedding and if you do not like it do not come, thats less people that you have to pay for. If they are truly your friends and family they will come! And they will be very happy to kick off the holiday weekend with a party!!

I'm sorry you're having problems. My sister was a holiday weekend wedding, and was it a little inconvenient to some people? Yes. But it wasn't to the point where we asked her to change it. You should keep it as is, and if it was such an issue it should have been brought up before you booked. To ask you to change it now is a bit selfish.

I think you should have your wedding when ever YOU want. Don't change your wedding date for one person. If you do it for one, you'll end up changing it a hundred times for others. As long as you send out a save the date it should be fine.

I agree that if you are set on Labor Day, you should have it absolutely b/c it is your day, and will only happen once - but if you don't care, and it will save you hassle later - just change it, if you have not booked anywhere or would lose deposits - I know I had a date picked orginally and my brother had another wedding that day and a step sister also said it was bad for her so I just changed - but it didn't matter at all to me, and I hadn't set one yet - one way or another someone won't like it - so just stay true to what you need/want

My moh is having hers then as well and honestly, I don't see what the big deal is. Someone gets married only ONCE in their lives, and if they(your guests) are blessed to be invited they should make a weekend out of that and think of it as celebrating for a family/friend. To me thats one of the best feelings, knowing someone you love is happy...there are plenty of other years to go on vacation... And I could care less what day she picked for her wedding, as long as she's getting married and I get to be part of it with her

i agree with everyone! yes it might be a problem for some, especially those who go away during those long weekend holidays and look foward to it.. but honestly, this is a wedding we are talking about and that is a big deal and something BIG to look foward to so if they dont look foward to your wedding in that case they arent worth it and you should not let them change your mind.. this is your day and you get married when you want to not when anyone else tells you to! =]

I'm a true Labor Day bride - getting married on the Monday. I think you need to do what's right for you. If you want to get married on that Friday, then do it. I'm sure your brother will be able to find another weekend to go on vacation. He'll definitely want to see his sister walk down the aisle!
As for worrying about it being a holiday weekend - I'm just not worrying. I'll be sending out my STDs in a couple of weeks. The people who really care about me will make sure they're there for our wedding. I'm sure the same will be true of yours.

Re: Problems already!
I honestly don't see a problem with a holiday weekend wedding, FH's cousin is getting married the saturday of labor day weekend and I don't have a problem with it. What is the big deal that someone gives up a 'holiday weekend' for someones wedding. I think they are just being selfish!

Re: Problems already!
I'm on the fence about this....personally, i don't mind holiday weekends b/c i never ever go away, but i know i have heard many people complain about people who do have weddings on holiday weekends.
my brother was in a wedding party for a labor day weekend wedding and was really pissed my girlfriend is getting married fourth of july weekend next year and my fh is not too pleased about it b/c he wanted to do vegas for his bachelor party that weekend, so those are just examples of people who get mad
however, imo i don't mind b/c i don't go away
but you should do whatever you want and don't care....if they wanna be there, then they're there

Re: Problems already!
Personally I hate it when people make me go to a wedding on holiday weekends. It usually means having to blow off something that is either a family tradition or something like a weekend trip that we look forward to. Labor Day weekend for example is one of the few times when fh and I can spend a few days at his shore house and relax. A lot of people will complain behind your back on a holiday weekend wedding. I can't tell you how many times I have heard people complain about having to go to a wedding on one of those weekends. I chose not to do a 4th of July this year even though it would have been cheaper and avoided some large headaches, but I didn't want to be that person people complain about.
However that being said, I have dealt with it and gone to weddings on Thanksgiving Weekend and Labor Day Weekend, and this year Memorial Day weekend, and they were for friends. So if your own family can't deal with it, then thats sad.
