Proofs on CD?

Has anyone decided to get their proofs on CD if offered by your photographer. I'm trying to decide if it is worth it. My thoughts are that the $$ I would spend on the CD, I could buy a nice scanner and then just scan the ones I wanted to. Did anyone get their proofs on CD and are so glad they did??

I am getting my proofs on CD but it is part of the photography package. I thought it was a great idea. My photographer said that I can take the CD and then play around with it to decide what size looks right and if I have the program to see what it would look like in black and white.
